In some ways, it feels like the 2009 WSOP Main Event didn’t really get going until Day 1C.

The big names came out in full force. Phil Hellmuth did his most ridiculously over-the-top and awesome entrance (this time as Caesar) to date. Say what you will about creating a spectacle and being an egomaniac, poker needs more fun, publicity-driven stunts like this. And finally, we had a field size that felt like the Main Event, with 1,696 entered. Today should be fun, with an anticipated field of 2,500+.

Joe Cada ended Day 1C as chip leader, stacked at 187,000. Among the big named big stacks (chip counts are approximate) are Jeffrey Lisandro (145,000), Justin Bonomo (112,000), Kevin Saul (108,000), Amnon Filippi (98,000), Joe Hachem (87,000), Tuan Le (85,000), and Hevad Khan (84,000).

Others surviving include Scotty Nguyen, Howard Lederer, Phil Hellmuth, Christina Lindley (a woman), and Isabelle Mercier (a woman).

Big name bust outs include Liv Boeree, Marcel Luske, Erica Schoenberg, Brandon Cantu, John Caldwell, Lacey Jones, Jamie Gold, Chino Rheem, Evy Ng, and Daniel Negreanu.

Only Lacey Jones could make a U of Arizona hat palpable to look at.
