It’s only a couple of weeks away, but there has still been no announcement or release of the 2010 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship field.

However, they did just release the fact that the tournament does in fact exist this year, with godaddy.com back as sponsor (read here).

Recently we got word that all but two of the spots were filled. This was before Doyle Brunson blogged that he’d be skipping the event. So math math math three spots are likely not filled. Or they are. But they just haven’t been announced yet.

Some questions in the meantime:
:: After last year’s shenanigans, will Layne Flack get an invite again?
:: Since only the last three WSOP ME champs are locks to get in, will Jamie Gold, Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, and Chris Moneymaker all come back? (our guess, Hachem and Moneymaker are locks)
:: On that note, does Jerry Yang even bother coming back? And if he does, will this be literally the last time we see him?
:: According to PokerNewsDaily.com, Jennifer Tilly and Jason Alexander have been invited back. What other celebs though will get the call? Last year Michael Phelps was going to play before he got busted smoking weed. Has the proverbial smoke cleared for him to play this year?

Anyway, expect the list any day.

i’d like to see no celebs get the call. i’m tired of watching celebrities play poker. it’s boring. they don’t know what they’re doing (i.e. poker after dark with jason alexander shoving all his chips in with A-10 while don cheadle plays weak-tight). no offense to them. i don’t wanna watch poker players try to act.

Some people who will be there, that wouldn’t be automatic qualifiers:

Jesper Hougaard and JP Kelly (who both won Vegas/London WSOP bracelets in 2008 and 2009). *
    Gavin Smith

Jeff Lisandro had to turn down the invite since he has a conflict with a tournament in Australia *.

*Mentioned on 2+2 Pokercast interview with Mori Eskandani.
