2010 WSOP Update: Phil Hellmuth in Contention for 12th Bracelet

The $1,500 NLH event brought out some of the better GOTRs we've seen at the 2010 WSOP so far...

A couple of bracelets were awarded yesterday, but the big story today is that Phil Hellmuth is in contention for WSOP [hold'em] bracelet #12. Here’s the latest daily recap…

:: Event #6 ($5,000 NLH Shoot-Out) - U.S. American Joshua Tieman won his first WSOP bracelet, banking $441,692. Tieman defeated Brit Neil Channing ($273,153) for the title. Get full payouts here.

:: Event #7 ($2,500 2-7 Lowball) - David Chiu fell just short of capturing his non-record tying fifth bracelet, finishing in fourth ($50,157). The event was won by Peter Gelencser of Budapest, Hungary. Gelencser banks $180,730 and his first bracelet. Get full payouts here.

:: Event #8 ($1,500 NLH) - This is the event that the aforementioned Phil Hellmuth is in contention for his aforementioned 12th WSOP bracelet. The starting field of 2,341 is down to 25, and Hellmuth is 5th overall with 556,000. Saar Wilf leads with 1,207,000. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #9 ($1,500 PLH) - The starting field of 650 quickly played down to the money bubble, ending the day with 65 remaining (63 get paid). James Dempsey of the U.K. leads with 205,900. He’s followed by one-time November Niner^TM Scott Montgomery (193,300). Melissa Hayden, a woman who Liv Boeree said to be on the look-out for in our latest podcast, is stacked at 64,800. :: Event #10 ($10,000 7CS) - Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi is running really good/super-super focused, as he leads the Seven-Card Stud Championship event after Day 1. The Grinder is stacked at 191,900. He’s followed by Vladimir Schmelev (178,100) and 2009 November Niner Eric “Cult of Personality” Buchman (119,000). Of the starting field of 150, 88 remain. Among the notable big stacks are Doyle Brunson (105,100), Nick Schulman (96,000), Robert Mizrachi (72,900), and Phil Ivey (61,200). Ivey’s holy triumvirate mate Daniel Negreanu remains as well with 55,300 (Hellmuth didn’t play). Get full chip counts here.
