2011 WSOP Recap: Gus Hansen Goes for Bracelet #2

Gus Hansen goes for two...bracelet...at the 2011 WSOP today.

Another day of strong fields and solid action at the 2011 WSOP was trumped by the Phil Ivey vs. Full Tilt dramabomb (this time, via FTP’s Dan Gilbert-esque scorned lover response).

Expect the WSOP to steal back some of that thunder today, however, with their 5pm announcement. It’s the kind of thing we’re all over. Our type of announcement. We’ll leave it at that for now.

:: Event #2 ($25,000 NLH Heads-Up) – The field is down to eight and is headlined by Gus Hansen. The Great Dane, who is gunning for bracelet #2 (he won his first at the WSOP Europe in a heads-up event as well), will go against Matt Marafioti. Other Great 8 match-ups today include Anthony Guetti vs. Jake Cody, Eric Froehlich vs. Nikolay Endakov, and [……….] vs. David Paredes. For an event recap, go here.

:: Event #3 ($1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8oB) – A strong field of 925 played down to 210. Guillaume Rivet is the overnight chip leader, stacked at 71,200. Some notable big stacks include Barry Greenstein (47,800), Jimmy Fricke (47,600), Sorel Mizzi (41,000), Bryan Micon (38,000), Jean-Robert Bellande (37,000), T.J. Cloutier (34,500), and Erik Seidel (32,000). Get full chip counts here.
