Amir Vahedi Died (1961-2010)

RIP Amir.

Poker player Facebook and Twitter accounts blew up last night with news that Amir Vahedi has passed away.

Regarded as one of the nicer guys on the circuit, Vahedi is best known for finishing sixth at the 2003 WSOP Main Event. He won one WSOP bracelet and had over $3.1M in career tournament earnings.

Reason for his passing is not known at this time. Some speculation is that Vahedi had complications due to diabetes.

From poker player tweets and Facebook updates:

Phil Hellmuth: Amir Vahedi Rest In Peace my old friend…Amir was one of the nicest, gentlest guys on tour, and everyone loved him…Very sad, diabetes…

Michele Lewis: Amir passed away yesterday from diabetes complications. He made people feel welcome and gave life to the game.

Scott Huff: Amir Vahedi is in his own way the man who started it all for me. RIP Havana Banana. Your smile through a stogie will be missed.

Annie Duke: Still thinking about Amir. What a nice, sweet, funny soul. I keep picturing him with his cigar and his smile. 2 things he always had.

Howard Lederer: Amir Vahedi was one of the good guys. I’m very sad. RIP.

The first of my favorite quotes on my Facebook info page is this:

“In order to live, you must be willing to die” ~ Amir Vahedi

It should be on The Top Ten List of Things To Remember When Playing Poker!

I am saddened by his loss and my wishes go to his family.
