Now that Epic Poker doesn’t own it (or exist), we can saw that Dan Smith has been tearing up the GPI this year.
Dan who?
Exactly.
Smith looks about as unassuming as his name. But he has earned $2,174,342 on the tournament circuit in 2012 (and over $2.8M for his career). Smith won the $100k Aussie Millions buy-in event and had five 2012 WSOP cashes. Now he’s poised to take down his first EPT High Roller event.
Smith will take the chip lead to the final table, stacked at 5,108,000. He’s followed by Mike McDonald with 4,650,000.
In fourth overall is Erik Seidel (698,000). Behind him is Ilari Sahamies (685,000).
First earns €1,075,500 ($1,325,123). Get full final table chip counts here.

I. like many others, have been surprised at the success of Dan Smith; he seems to have appeared from nowhere and that mystique is undoubtedly reflected in his approach to poker. His victory at the Aussie Millions was impressive but now he has eclipsed that achievement. It just goes to show that you don’t need to have a big ego or presence to be successful and I hope his hot streak continues. It would be nice to see more players of his kind coming through the ranks, he genuinely seems like a nice person- which is refreshing given the bad press poker has received recently.
It’s great to see someone come out of nowhere and create some controversy in the poker scene
Fair play Dan!
