Daniel Negreanu had been cruising at the EPT Vienna event since around 50 remaining, always at or near the top of the chip count.
At the final table, Negreanu was chip leader pretty much all the way through five-handed play. But unlike Wilson Phillips, he couldn’t hold on, finishing fourth.
Had Negreanu won, he would’ve captured poker’s elusive Triple CrownTM and supplanted Phil Ivey as the all-time tournament money winner.
For the fourth, Negreanu banked $251,040 and pushed his career earnings over $13M. This was the biggest cash and finish in what has been a bit of an off-year for Negreanu.
In related news, Michael Eiler of Germany won the event, banking just over a million dollars. Don’t read all about it here.
