In Event #22 ($1,500 PLO) another Frenchie, Elie Payan, banked a bracelet. This just one day after country-mate Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier captured his first. Sacrebleu! Much like Savoir Faire the French are everywhere this year. For the win, Payan banks $292,825, or about 16,733 pounds of Bleu d’Auvergne cheese. Payan defeated Rafael Kibrit ($181,222) heads-up for the title. Other notable finishes include David “Doc” Sands in third ($113,383), 2 Months 2 Million star Emil “whitelime” Patel in sixth ($45,544), and chess master Jeff Sarwer in eighth ($26,704). The other bracelet went out in Event #23 ($2,500 8-Game). John Monnette, who you may or may not remember for coming thisclose to winning multiple bracelets in 2009 (and specifically finishing second to Phil Ivey), finally captured his first, banking $278,144 in the process. He defeated Eric Buchman ($171,855), who continues his three-year WSOP run-good, heads-up for the title. John Juanda finished sixth ($42,897) and John Racener finished eighth ($24,797).
