James Dempsey Wins 2011 WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic

Lesson learned: doing a favor for a friend can sometimes pay big dividends.

And think, he wasn’t even supposed to play in it.

James Dempsey came to Las Vegas as a favor to his friend Chris Moorman. The Brit was asked by Moorman to pick up some money owed to him.

A week later, Dempsey gets to pad his own pockets with $821,612 and his first World Poker Tour title.

Dempsey captured the 2011 WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic on Sunday, defeating Soi Nguyen ($517,478) heads-up for the title.

Vanessa Selbst, a woman, finished third ($338,351), just as Vanessa Rousso, a woman, did in this event last year.

Antonio Esfandiari went out quickly in sixth place ($119,418).
