Josh Arieh, Gavin Smith, Jason Mercier Still Among Leaders at WPT World Poker Finals

Gavin Smith and Maria Ho are still sitting pretty at the WPT World Poker Finals and WSOP South Africa Main Event, respectively.

They’re just a few shy of the money at the WPT Foxwords World Poker Finals.

The starting field of 242! has played down to 28, with 25 making the so-called “money.”

Leading the way going into Day 4 is Chris Hunichen with 714,000. He’s followed by Nikolai Yakovenko with 580,000. And he’s followed by Josh Arieh with 548,500.

Plenty of other big names remain who won’t make the TV final table, including Jason Mercier (342,000), Gavin Smith (307,500), Tom Marchese (249,000), Hoyt Corkins (239,000), and Sorel Mizzi (238,500).

Our new revised TV final table predictions include some old names and some new: Bryon Springer, Besnik Ziba (can you WPT reporting team folks get a pic of this guy on the site already?) Gerard Kane, Nikolai Yakovenko, Jeff Forrest, and Bob Courtney.

In semi-related tournament news, Daniel Negreanu still has the chip lead (albeit slim) at the EPT Vienna with six remaining. A win here, and Negreanu leaps into poker immortality by securing the Triple CrownTM. The win would also make him poker’s all time top tournament money winner, passing Phil Ivey by around 100,000 (see here). Follow the action live here.

In semi-semi related tournament news, Maria Ho is still alive at the WSOP South Africa Main Event. According to her Twitter account and nothing else, she’s sixth out of the eight remaining stacks. Follow Maria’s Twitter here.
