Phil Hellmuth Does Not Win WSOP Bracelet #12

This one is gonna leave a mark.

Dare we say…so close, yet…so far?

Phil Hellmuth almost ended his four year bracelet drought by capturing #12 in Event #16 ($10,000 2-7 NL). But alas, he fell short to stone-cold killer John Juanda.

Hellmuth held around a 3-to-1 chip advantage when heads-up play began, but Juanda chipped away, evening the stacks up, before running away with the win.

For the win, Juanda banked $367,170. He now has over $11.8M in career earnings. This was Juanda’s fourth WSOP bracelet.

Hellmuth earned $226,907 for second.

Honestly disappointing. I was sweating him hard from behind a computer screen last night. Despite how polarizing a personality he is, and how much irrational hatred towards him there is, I don’t think anyone’s success is more critical to the success of poker in general than Hellmuth. Good luck to him the rest of the series!

    Irrational hatred?

I wouldn’t describe my feelings for him as either hatred or irrational.  The fact is, there are plenty of high school kids and even a few junior high kids who are more mature than he does.  I realize he may be just acting to create an image but then again he may not.  In any case, I can only judge by what I see.

I really can’t understand that sentiment, especially as someone who has played and dealt poker since he was 18. All professional gamblers, with only, minor, minor, exceptions are arrogant, ego-maniacal, neurotic, selfish and any number of other less than becoming adjectives. It’s product of the lifestyle, plain and simple. Besides being a whiner and a bully, which is hilarious, Hellmuth is still the most recognizable name in poker.

A “whiner and a bully” is exactly what I’m talking about.  That’s what I call “immature”.  Maybe you think its hilarious, but I just think it’s annoying.  I hit the mute button whenever he goes on one of his silly tirades and I wait ’till its over.

But if you happen to like that kind of happy horse manure, that’s fine to each his own.
