Now this is a fun story to kick-off 2011…
We love stereotypes. They help simplify things. It’s why we always judge a book by its cover.
So when not throwing boomerangs, boxing Kangaroos, or wrestling crocs, Australians like to drink. They love beer. They drink Foster’s like Americans drink bottled water. With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that on New Year’s the Star City Casino in Sydney served a poker player 42 beers in a glorious 17-hour drinking binge.
Copy & paste from Covers.com:
The player ordered five beers every two hours until the table finally closed at 7 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The Star City was hit with a $10,000 fine because casinos are barred from letting someone who is intoxicated gamble, but the staff says they kept serving the patron because they didn’t realize how much he had to drink and he didn’t appear intoxicated.
While this is an impressive drinking feat, it’s not nearly as incredible as something we witnessed during Spring Break in 1992.
There, in Panama City, our friend Bones managed to funnel 25 beers and 4 shots of Golden Grain within a six-hour span. Not only did he not die, he didn’t throw up, pass out, or…die. And Bones isn’t even Australian.
