The European Poker Tour event in Kiev, Ukraine wrapped up this weekend with Maxim “Decay” Lykov winning the title. The 21-year-old ex-commie from Russia impressively held the chip lead on days 3 and 4 of the tournament and held on day 5 for the win.
For the win, Lykov takes home €330,000. In second was local guy/ex-commie Alexander Dovzhenko (€220,000) and in third was ex-commie Vitaly Tolonnikov of Russia (€140,000).
The event, which drew 296 players most of who come from countries we loved to hate in the 80s because it made for good movies (Red Dawn, Spies Like Us, Stripes, to name a few), was originally scheduled to take place in Moscow but was changed once Russia declassified poker as a sport, making it illegal to play the game in card rooms across country.
