Who Gets Patched By Tilt at the Final Table?

Good to see Inside Deal delving into some more industry insidery content in the latest episode (watch above).

Around the 14-min mark, FOWCP Laura Lane and Bernard Lee, as well as Dennis Phillips, discuss the 2010 WSOP final table rule that limits each online site to only three logo’d players.

Due to some shenanigans that we’ll kindly call a “bending of the rules,” Full Tilt patched a ton of folks at one of the mid-day breaks, and ran good enough to get 7 of them to the November NineTM.

However, now they’ll have to pick just three of the seven players, leaving PokerStars with the remaining two (Jason Senti and Jonathan Duhamel).

So who does Tilt pick, and what happens to the others?

As Bernard Lee discusses above, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi is a lock to keep his Tilt patch (after ditching his Deliverance one). John Dolan, who enters final table play second in chips, should be a lock too. The sites want to pick whoever they think has the best shot at winning, and Dolan’s stack, if nothing else, almost assures he’ll be around long enough to get good TV time.

After that, it probably comes down to Joe “Subiime” Cheong and John Racener. Given Racener has a longer track record of success and isn’t that far behind Subiime in chips, we’d guess he’ll get the patch come November. But like that song from Asia, only time will tell.

So what would happen to the other Tilters? Can they switch to another online site?

Probably not.

In order for them to do so, Tilt would need to release them from their contracts. That’s not likely going to happen. We bumped into our friends at Victory Poker once play hit 10 people, and they were on their way to the set in hopes of locking up whoever Tilt dropped, but no luck there then, and probably no luck there for anyone over the next couple of months.

And scene.

2010 WSOP Tournament Of Champions Airs On ESPN Tonight

Huck Seed TOC

SPOILER ALERT: Don't look at the photo above of 2010 WSOP TOC winner Huck Seed if you don't want to know who won the 2010 WSOP TOC.

The final table of the 2010 WSOP Tournament of Champions airs tonight on ESPN at 8pm EST/5pm PST.

ESPN has to be pretty happy with how its 2010 WSOP broadcast is starting off, especially after last year’s dismal first two episodes that included a ratings-dampening final table in the $40,000 buy-in event and an “absolute fucking worst-case scenario” final three players (McEvoy, Varkonyi, Harrington) in the Champions Invitational.

This year though, the $50,000 Poker Players Championship delivered big name pros and a couple of solid story lines, like the Mizrachi brothers, that was good enough to give ESPN a 15% increase in ratings over last year’s first show. And tonight, you have to think even more will tune in to watch the Tournament of Champions.

The All-Star-like, Made for TVTM tournament, which WSOP VP Ty Stewart brought back after a three year hiatus, produced a solid, mainstream-poker-fan-friendly final nine of Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Annie Duke, a woman, Howard LedererJohnny Chan, Joe HachemHuck Seed, Jennifer Harman, a woman and T.J. Cloutier. As ESPN points out in its preview (below), the nine combine for 41 WSOP bracelets and over $32 million in winnings. Impressive stuff. Expect to see ESPN focus once again on the brother-sister angle of Lederer and Duke, like they did back during the 2004 TOC, as well as Johnny Chan finally coming close to winning something big again. Also, expect to see “Salty” Joe Hachem acting salty.

Of note, as WSOP VP TY Stewart told us in this video (about 1:22:00 in), next year’s TOC final table will likely be scheduled around the November Nine broadcast.

Preview from tonight’s second episode below. Reread our write-up on the event here.

Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi’s Event No. 2 Win Kicks Off WSOP On ESPN Tonight

Michael The Grinder Mizrachi

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi sporting the Deliverance Poker patch during the $50K final table.

SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read the headline above. Or anything below.

The 2010 WSOP on ESPN starts tonight at 9pm EST/6pm PST 8pm EST/5pm PST with Event No. 2, the $50,000 Poker Players Championship, won by Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi.

The focus will obviously be on the Brothers MizrachiTM (Rob and The Grinder) making the final table together, kick starting what eventually would become the Year of the MizrachisTM at the 2010 WSOP. The two would go on to make two more final tables each before the Main Event, where all 4 brothers impressively cashed and The Grinder November Nines it. Also kick started here was the WSOP POY race with John Juanda and Vladimir Shchemelev each going on to make 3 more final tables before the series ended. Actually, other than David Oppenheim, every player at the final table of Event No. 2 went on to make at least one more final table with David Bakes Baker and Daniel Alaei each grabbing WSOP bracelets.

Of note, as we reported here, both Brothers Mizrachis wore their Deliverance Poker patches without the dot-net attached during the $50K final table. From the ESPN preview (view here) it doesn’t look like they blurred it out but it’s hard to see it anyway in the footage they show. What is clear is neither wore their patches during their ESPN interviews. We’ll see how it plays out tonight.

One Last Look At The 2010 WSOP Girls On The Rail

Ass girl 2010 WSOP Main Event

Looking back, it was a fine year for Girls on the Rail.

In case you haven’t found our full gallery of Girls on the Rail from the 2010 WSOP, here’s the link. Enjoy. You can also check out all the posts with them here.

While a lot was said about this year’s crop of GOTRs not living up to past years, a few standouts like the spectacularly backsided Ass Girl 2 (Jillian) and the Norwegian hottie Rachel Nordtomme more than made up for the lack of quantity with serious quality.

Also noteworthy, in no particular order, were David William’s girlfriend, Brad Garrett’s girlfriend, Chick with a Pitbull, Super Cute Tat Girl, “Natasha” the Russian and Tatjana Pasalic the Croatian.

And of course this was pretty hot.

We’ll start the official voting for our Girls on the Rail Hall of Fame next week. For now, browse through the full gallery and let us know who’s your favorite. And if you happen to be one of the GOTRs featured this year, contact us. If you make the Hall of Fame we’ll have some prizes for you.
