Mervin Chan Wins 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event

Mervin Chan: another all-timer Aussie Millions champ.

Entering the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event, Mervin Chan had all of one tournament cash on his resume (an earlier in the week cash during an Aussie Millions prelim event).

Did that stop him from winning the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event? Of course not. This is Mervin Fucking Chan we’re talking about.

Chan outlasted a final table that included one of the top high roller players in the world (Dan Shak) and recognized top 5 all-around player in the world (Patrik Antonius) to claim the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event title and bank $1.6M AUD (or roughly $1.66 USD).

Chan joins a legendary “who’s who” of past Aussie Millions champs like David Gorr, Tyron Krost, Stewart Scott, and Jamil Dia.

The aforementioned Shak had the chip lead entering final table play, but finished fourth for $400,000 AUD. The also aforementioned Antonius came in third for $600,000 AUD.

Whatever high-stakes run-good Sam Trickett and Tobias Reinkemeier had in 2012 has spilled over into the new year.

Last year, Trickett banked over $10M in high roller events (albeit it was just one cash, at the $1M OneDrop WSOP event). Reinkemeier cashed in four events in ’12–all high-rollers–for just over $2M.

The first super high roller event of 2013 wrapped at the Aussie Millions, with Trickett and Reinkemeier battling it out. Trickett took it down, earning $2M AUD. Reinkemeier earned $1,250,000 AUD for second.
