2011 Wicked Chops Awards: Girl on the Rail of the Year Goes To…

Above: The first time our lenses caught The Girl Chainsaw Tweeted About

…it all started with a simple tweet.

Monday, July 11, 2011 by @AllenKessler:

@wickedchops girl on the rail alert table 70 white

So we headed over there. By the time we arrived, Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler was already eliminated, but we immediately figured out who he was talking about.

After we took the pics, we let Chainsaw know, to which he responded in typical Chainsaw-fashion:

@wickedchops did u get there in time she’s gone now. Hey, why aren’t u following me?

Perfect.

We put the pics up, and most immediately acknowledged she was the top girl we snapped all year.

Then fate intervened.

Turns out that the The Girl Chainsaw Tweeted About–our runaway winner of our Girl on the Rail of the Year Award– was the daughter of eventual November Niner Badih Bounahra. Her name is Amal. She railed her dad pretty much every day during his run. And she might’ve had her entire home country of Belize vote for her.

When we opened polls, it was a fairly even contest between her, Jean Shorts Girl, Tatty Tats, and Xuan Liu. Then, about two days before we closed polling, Amal surged, captured about every vote, and closed with a ridiculous 84% of the tally.

Xuan Liu came in second.

So congratulations to The Girl Chainsaw Tweeted About. She joins the exalted air of previous Girl on the Rail of the Year winners Ass Girl and Rachel Nordtømme. Unlike those two though, we expect to see her again next year.

This Was The Girl Chainsaw Tweeted About

This guy looks like he saw Chainsaw's tweet too and was on to us...

Granted, yes, Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler may not be as great of an American hero as this effing guy. But make no mistake, Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler is a truly great U.S. American.

Chainsaw tweeted us a Girls on the Rail alert. And, lo and behold, turns out Chainsaw spotted one of the best Girls on the Rail of the entire 2011 WSOP.

While the table was broken quickly after we arrived and she was off like a flash, we did get a few pics, at least.

So everyone reading this, please go to this website called Twitter. And when you get Twitter, be sure to Tweet @AllenKessler a thank you message.

He’ll appreciate it. And Chainsaw, we appreciate you.

Brian Rast Wins First WSOP Bracelet

Catching up on some other non-Hellmuth 2011 WSOP news, Brian Rast (above) won his first bracelet yesterday in Event #15 ($1,500 PLH).

Rast, a Victory Poker pro and PokerVT instructor, was in control from about two tables down until the end. For the win, Rast banked $227,232. He defeated Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler ($140,309), who continues his strong WSOP play from last year, heads-up for the title.

The win almost didn’t happen for Rast, as he had no intention of playing the event. Here’s the story as told by the frequently fantastic Nolan Dalla:

Four days ago, [Rast] was in Brazil at the end of a long vacation.  That’s right — Brazil.  As in South America.  Following a two-month stay, Rast flew back to the U.S. where he landed in Las Vegas on the morning of Thursday, June 9th.  He arrived home on a red-eye flight and was dragging his bags down the hallway of his high-rise condo, when he ran into neighbor, friend, and as it turned out guardian angel who flapped his own proverbial wings making a typhoon out of what would have been an innocuous initial act.

The guardian angel and inspiration was Antonio Esfandiari.

Rast and Esfandiari got to talking that morning.  When Esfandiari found out Rast had no intention of playing in the upcoming $1,500 buy-in Pot-Limit Hold’em Championship, to be held later that day, he made his friend an offer he could not refuse.  Esfandiari agreed to bankroll Rand and put him in the tournament.  And so, off to the Rio Rand went.

Ok, so let’s revise the above now and say that Rast really only banked about $114,000 for the win. Nice score there, Antonio.

Frank Kassela Wins $10k 7CS 8oB Title

Jennifer Harman couldn't crack the bulging stacks of Frank Kassela and Allen Kessler to claim the Event #15 title.

Well, she gave it a good run.

After we wrote about how it’s not exactly been the Year of the WomanTM at the 2010 WSOP, Jennifer Harman, a woman, suddenly stepped up and made a charge at the Event #15 ($10,000 7CS 8oB) title.

The final five went laaaaaaaaate into the night, but Harman couldn’t pull through, bowing out in third ($173,159).

That left Frank Kassela and Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler to battle it out for their first ever bracelet. Ultimately, Chainsaw found something with the structure that probably didn’t appeal to him in heads-up play, and Kassela pulled through, banking $447,446.

Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler Finds A Structure He Likes, Wins Bayou Poker Challenge

Allen Chainsaw Kessler

An ecstatic Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler (on right) won the $3k Bayou Poker Challenge

Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler, the Larry David of poker, except “not as funny” and “slightly more annoying,” isn’t complaining about a tournament structure for once. That’s because it’s a tournament he actually won. The well-known nit, circuit rat and thorn in Matt Savage’s side beat out a field of 80 players to take first place at the 2009 Bayou Poker Challenge Championship at Harrah’s New Orleans yesterday. Kessler takes home $70,976, bringing his career winnings to nearly $1.5 million.

Nolan Dalla on Chainsaw’s victory:

Sometimes, dealing with Allen Kessler can be a bit like juggling a whirling chainsaw. Make that a chainsaw with the power revved up to “high.” In recent years, he’s developed a reputation on the poker tournament circuit as once of the game’s most prickly personalities. He’s demanding. He’s opinionated. And, he can certainly be razor sharp.

Vroooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmm. And, as Kessler’s most recent tournament victory in the Bayou Poker Challenge championship shows, he can also shear down plenty of other players who believe they can whack him at the poker table.

————-

Following his victory, Kessler sounded nothing like a chainsaw. In fact, his comments were music to the ears of Tournament Director, Steve Frezer and his staff. “I really like supporting these events,” Kessler said. “These are great structures. It’s one of the best tournament structures I’ve seen for this buy-in amount.”

Immediately following his victory, Kessler darted off to the high-limit section where there were plenty of $5 video poker machines from which to chose. Once could sense that in the casino, yet another chainsaw massacre was about to take place.
