2010 WSOP Update: Kirk Morrison Leads $50k Player’s Championship

Andy Bloch (right foreground) has a pair of high profile second place finishes...will he break through for his first major win in Event #2?

The 2010 WSOP Event #2 ($50,000 Player’s Championship) has lost math math math over half its field, with only 54 of the starting 116 remaining.

Leading the way is the Roy Hobbs of poker, Kirk Morrison. Dude is great, The Natural. Disappears for extended stretches of time, shows up, pwns, goes away again. At the end of Day 2, Morrison is stacked at 741,000. He’s followed by Andy Bloch (above), who came in second in the inaugural WSOP $50k championship, with 716,500.

Just about everyone else remaining is notable with the exception of the guy in third overall, Mikael Thuritz (697,000). Yesterday’s chip leader, Erik Sagstrom, is fifth overall (656,000). Of the holy triumvirate (Hellmuth, Negreanu, Ivey), only Phil Ivey remains, stacked 24th overall with 324,500.

And for those hoping that Event #2 would kick off the Year of the WomanTM in the right direction–it won’t–as Jennifer Harman was eliminated.

In Event #3 ($1,000 NLH) news, 276 of the original 2,601 field made it past Day 1A. Terry Fleischer, not a woman, leads with 119,300. Nancy Todd Tyner, a woman, is second with 103,000. Tommy Vedes, Amarillo Slim, Vanessa Rousso (a woman), Jonathan Little, Blair Hinkle, Allie Prescott, Joe Sebok, and etc. all remain.

Check back later this afternoon for our first Wicked Chops Poker podcast with Seth Palansky and Erick Lindgren.

And finally, a great idea from ScheckTwit that might come to fruition today…replacing the Ginger of the Day photo, perhaps a Jersey Shore DB of the day?

2010 WSOP Table Accessory Du Jour: Apple iPad

The iPad is the must have table accessory for the 2010 WSOP

First it was the iPod. Then the PSP. Then the iPhone. And now, the latest table accessory du jour: the iPad.

Didn’t think there’d be a day when bringing an actual computer to your table would be kosher, but Andy Bloch did it today, and since he’s usually right about everything, we guess it’s cool.

As for “what’s next,” Erick Lindgren showed us FloTV today. Pretty sweet. If you’re unfamiliar, check it out here.

In Event #2 $50k Player’s Championship news, with 79 remaining, Steve Zolotow is the new chip leader. Kirk Morrison and Doyle Brunson are among the top 5. Get full chip counts here.

UPDATE: A few pics below of Andy Bloch viewing an TUAW blog post about him using the iPad, on his iPad (view article here).

Operation All-In Red Carpet (VIDEO)

Watch Randy Couture’s Operation All In GI Foundation Poker Tournament on RawVegas.tv

UFC star Randy Couture held his Operation All-In charity event this weekend, and it brought out a number of top poker pros.

Among those in attendance were Mike Sexton, Howard Lederer, and Andy Bloch. The big topics of conversation among them were Mike Sexton’s likely upcoming induction into the Poker Hall of Fame, Phil Ivey‘s chances of winning the 2009 WSOP Main Event (Lederer puts it at 7-1), and Andy Bloch’s potential $2M hit if Ivey does in fact win it.

Andy Bloch to Pay Phil Ivey $2,000,000 for Winning WSOP Main Event

Fuck you, Phil Ivey's wallet.

Fuck you, Phil Ivey's wallet.

This is just sick.

It’s not like Phil Ivey isn’t rich enough. He’s got approximately $10M in career tourney earnings…countless millions more from cash games (live and online)…and countless millions on top of that from whatever his stake in Full Tilt is.

On top of that, he’s banking a milli at a minimum for making the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table. And if he wins it, he’ll make a rumored $10M more from Tilt.

And then another $2 million from Andy Bloch.

Bloch was on the Hardcore Poker Show last night and admitted that when there were 2,400 players left in the Main Event, he bet Ivey 20K at 99-1 that he couldn’t close the deal.

Facing paying Ivey $2 million, he is contemplating buying out of the bet now.
