Full Tilt Poker Pros Seem to Be Doing Well In WSOPE Main Event

Andy Bloch is focusing on his first major title.

Does FTP have some massive WSOPE Main Event bracelet clause we’re not aware of? Or are they just out on a mission to takeover what many are calling, with their ubiquitous presence, the World Series of Betfair.

At the end of Day 3, the top 4 stacks belong to Full Tilt pros. In order: Andy Bloch (321,600), Brian Townsend (290,100), Erik Seidel (282,300), John Juanda (252,500).

Also in the top 20 are Brandon Adams (190,000), Mike Matusow (180,300), and Scott Fischman (152,800).

In all, 62 of the starting 362 remain. Other big named big stacks include Justin "BoostedJ" Smith (217,700), Daniel Negreanu (203,700), and that guy who played the aging singer in Love, Actually, Devilfish Ulliott, with 133,000.

2008 WSOP: ESPN Gets Huge Event #1 TV Final Table

2008_wsop2008 WSOP Event #1 ($10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em) played a grueling long second day but reached a final table packed with big name pros…and 21 year-old online poker phenom Mike "SowersUNCC" Sowers.

Leading the final table is the increasingly visible Andy Bloch with 2,115,000. Maybe not the most marketable cat around, Bloch has received a considerable amount of TV exposure the the past two years. In 2006 at the inaugural $50k H.O.R.S.E. event, Bloch took second, even though he generally outplayed eventual winner Chip Reese. Bloch also finished fifth at the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship last year and came in second this year.

Bloch is trailed by one-time WPT winner Nenad Medic (1,200,000) and full-time WPT host Mike Sexton.

Also at the final table is Patrik Antonius. And good timing too, as Antonius (230,000) will announce his new online poker sponsorship deal this afternoon before the final table. More details on this to come.

The rest of the final table includes the aforementioned Mike Sowers (675,000), Amit Makhija (525,000), Chris Bell (455,000), Phil Laak (425,000), and Kathy Liebert (285,000).

Libertarian Poker Night with Jesus and Bloch this April Fools’ Day

Chris Jesus Ferguson and Andy Bloch guests at Reason.com Poker NightThe freedom-loving, free-thinking, free market-ers over at Reason.com are hosting a “poker night” on Tuesday, April 1 with special guests Chris “Jesus” Ferguson and Andy Bloch. The evening will include some card playing and an open discussion on politics and poker moderated by the well-reasoned online poker advocate and CATO-er Radley Balko.

Says the site:

“On Tuesday, April 1, please join the staff of reason at our D.C. offices for a short panel discussion about the great American game of poker. What’s behind its massive recent surge in popularity? Why did Congress ban online poker? Why are local governments sending in SWAT teams to bust up private games?

After a discussion and audience Q&A moderated by reason Senior Editor Radley Balko, we’ll shuffle up and deal specially embossed free reason playing cards. Drinks, light snacks and poker paraphernalia provided.”

A poker night in DC held on April 1st with famous poker players and a bunch of UIGEA-opposing Libertarians? We smell an April Fools’ Day hoax coming saying the event got raided. Or maybe we’ll start it ourselves. And if we do, hopefully you’ll forget we just said that.

For more about the event go here.

Huck Seed Does Not Win Heads-Up Poker Championship (Again); Orel Hershiser Strikes Out Too

Orel_hershiser_nbc_national_heads_u

First, we’ll get this out of the way: the Entities who comprise Wicked Chops Poker will continue picking Huck Seed to win major events until Huck Seed wins a major event.

With that said, Huck Seed did not win the 2008 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship.

Huck was eliminated in the semi-finals by Andy Bloch. The two battled closely for awhile. Bloch seized a slight lead and when got their money in pre-flop. Huck held 9-9. Bloch A-Q. An ace hit on the river and Bloch advanced to the finals.

In the other semi-final match, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson defeated Phil Ivey. This makes Ferguson’s third Heads-Up Poker Championship final table.

Earlier in the day, Orel Hershiser was taken out by the aforementioned Bloch.

Finals are going on right now…check back shortly for results.

Poker After Dark is Reaching

Doyle Brunson playing Poker After Dark Cowboys weekApparently running out of good ideas, this week’s Poker After Dark on NBC is getting all Brokeback with a Cowboys theme with all six poker players supposedly fond of donning a cowboy hat at the poker table.

The six “gun slingers” are Chris Ferguson, Andy Bloch, Doyle Brunson, Hoyt Corkins, Gabe Kaplan and Chau Giang, who ironically never wears a cowboy hat.

Rumors are a “Lefties Week” and “Straight Male Hairdressers Week” are both in the works.

In related news, not all guys walking around Vegas wearing a Stetson, heavy-starched shirt and Wranglers when the rodeo is in town appreciate it when you say: “Loved ya in Brokeback Mountain, cowboy.” Some actually may punch you in the face.

Poker After Dark website here. Shoot them an email and suggest a “poker players who screwed/got screwed by Brandi Hawbaker” week. Or month.
