Post Presidential Poker News Brought to You By Andrew, You’re Not the Father

Pretty sure we can all agree that Barack Obama winning U.S. American President yesterday, at the very least, is not a bad thing for online poker. Below are some post-election links and poker news, all brought to you by "Andrew, You’re Not the Father." Happy days indeed.

:: Hold on, hold. In beaming about Obama’s victory, is Jeff Madsen saying he believes in the 9/11 conspiracy here? Really? [link]

The John McCain Gambling Fall-Out Link Dump

The way he’s polling right now and with the economy in the absolute shitter and with the back-firing pick of Sarah Palin as a running mate (after dropping Cookier), this all might not matter, but The New York Times ran an article yesterday that detailed John McCain‘s close ties to gambling lobbyists.

And the fall-out so far isn’t good.

Not sure what McCain did that was so bad (he was one of the first to take on Jack Abramoff, remember), but the article has caused some blow-back for his campaign. While we have no doubt that McCain would be bad for the potential online poker carve-out passed by Barney Frank and friends, given the current economic state, it might be a few years before McCain even gets around to that bill, and by then he’d be too old to remember what the Internet is anyway.

Use of Political Poker Analogies on the Rise as Election Nears

With the U.S. American presidential election nearing, the use of bad political poker analogies has seen a steady rise in recent weeks.

While not as blatantly bad as the Persian poker articles popular a few years ago when our so-called "Government" stared down Iran and their leader Mahmud AhmadAliNejad, if the current trend continues, the presidential election poker analogies could eventually far supersede what we saw with Iran.

Interestingly, the similarities between the two analogies are striking. First, the "poker face" or "holding cards close to the vest" references are off the charts. And one can’t overlook that two of the principle players in the analogies, Barack "Bam" Obama and Mahmud AhmadAliNejad, are very Muslim.

Anyway, some recent examples include "Bluffing ‘Bout Bias?" and "Should McCain Hold His Cards in VP Poker?"

In related news, it’s already been noted that Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey are big Obama supporters, and it turns out Andy Bloch and some others are as well. Read about that here and here.

In somewhat related news, below is a preview of the highly anticipated battle between Obama Girl and McCain Girl.

Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey Meet Barack Obama

As alluded to in his previous video blog, Daniel Negreanu jetted off to LA yesterday with Phil Ivey for a fundraiser dinner with Barack "Bam" Obama.

Obama, who is on the record saying he does play poker, recognized the two, but they didn’t get into a convo about the UIGEA. As Negreanu put it, he probably has "bigger fish to fry."

Then, Phil Ivey, who likes to gamble, laid 10-1 odds to Daniel that Obama would pick Hillary Clinton to be his VP. Negreanu gets the field. If we were Daniel, we’d be feeling pretty good about our chances on this one.
