Clonie Gowen, A Woman, Among Chip Leaders at WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Poker Classic

Clonie_gowen

Clonie Gowen is having one helluva year, for a woman.

She's got two six figure wins under her belt in 2008, for a woman.

She's got a $40 mil lawsuit in the works that kicks the crap out of just about any divorce settlement, for a woman.

And she's killing it at the ridiculously long-named (copy+paste) WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Poker Classic, for a woman.

At the end of Day 2, Gowen is among the big stacks, for a woman, sitting fourth overall with 405,000. She trails Justin Young, who is stacked at 550,000.

Other big named big stacks include but are certainly not limited to the suddenly resurgent Kido Pham (400,000), Antonio Esfandiari (336,000), David Benyamine (335,000), Phil Hellmuth (335,000), Tuan Le (310,000), creepy as fuck Rene Angelil (283,500), and Dutch Boyd (275,000).

Stupid Poker Criminals Hall of Fame Welcomes Essam Ahmed Eid

It’s been a long time since we’ve inducted someone into our esteemed Stupid Poker Criminals Hall of Fame but this one merits the attention.

Essam_ahmedeidEssam Ahmed Eid (pictured), a 53-year-old Egyptian terrorist man who was a dealer in the Bellagio Poker Room, which really blows now by the way, started a murder-for-hire operation, and rather than do it on the down low, he started a company called Hitman for Hire complete with a website at www.hitmanforhire.net. It’s now defunct but you can see an archived version of the site here.

While setting up the site alone would earn Eid, who went by the name “Tony Luciano,” a place in the hallowed halls of our SPCHoF, the stupid criminal stuff he did after people actually contacted him through the site raises his stupidity to a whole new level. Really, they don’t get any more stupid-er than Eid.

For an example, consider this: Some lady from Ireland named Sharon Collins contacted him through his site and ended up hiring him to kill her rich Irish lover and his two sons. Eid gets a down payment from her and then flies to Ireland where he plans to double-cross her. To do so he breaks into the rich dude’s office, steals two computers and calls one of the sons he’s supposed to kill, returns a computer to him and tells him there was a contract on his life, which he could avoid if he handed over $150,000. Of course, the son calls the cops, who then arrest Eid and recover the computer that has all the email conversations between him and Collins.

Stupid.

Read all of the details about how stupid Eid was, except for the part where he was banging two chicks, in a great write-up by the Las Vegas Sun‘s Abigail Goldman here. Or wait until this stuff becomes a movie. It’s only a matter of time.

This Guy’s Brother Leading WPT World Championship

Michael_grinder_mizrachi

While donning a RawVegas.tv lid didn’t do much for Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi‘s karma yesterday at the 2008 WPT World Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, his brother had a helluva day.

Robert Mizrachi stormed to a huge chip lead, ending the day stacked at 523,200. He’s trailed by Jayde Tran, a woman, with 406,700.

Only 188 remain going into Day 3 play. Defending champ Carlos Mortensen is among the big stacks with 371,600. Some other big name big stacks include Kenny Tran (367,400), Michael Gracz (364,800), Marcel Luske (325,200), Tom Schneider (288,000), Joe Sebok (278,100), Gus Hansen (246,000), our favorite scarf-wearing Euro Dario Minieri (220,000), and the spectacularly breasted J.C. Tran (201,300). Our perennial pick to win it, Huck Seed, is still alive with 71,000.

Jeff Madsen is a Renaissance Man

MadsenApparently, Jeff “Prairie Dog” Madsen isn’t just a poker player, cigarette smoker, expert Guitar Hero-er and reality show chick banger. He’s also an art connoisseur and interior decorator, of sorts.

AllInmag.com reported today that the two-time WSOP bracelet winner is “involved” in an effort to update the Bellagio Poker Room with some art.

Explains Jeff on his MySpace blog:

“Me and my artist friend Jen Ashton came up with a plan to renovate the look of the Bellagio poker room. The artwork in there seems outdated and the place could certainly use a new feel. Soo, because she is so good at portraits and is involved in the poker world we came up with a plan to be able to donate artwork to the poker room. The first step is to form a ‘committee’ of some sort, basically anyone who is willing to donate money to this cause will have a say in what portraits Jen will actually paint. Once we get enough in donations for her to paint, she will work on a portrait of whichever figure in poker the committee has voted on. I feel like this is a great way to do this because the Bellagio poker room will eventually have a better look and the art will be ‘by the players, for the players.’ We will certainly do Chip Reese as a first portrait once we get this rolling. I will give an update when the project is officially in motion, but I just wanted to present it so we can start getting some attention behind it. Let’s fill the Bellagio with poker legends!”
