Kara Scott has her sights set on the Last Woman Standing Cup(TM). Unfortunately we don't know the exact number of woman left yet as too many French names could be chick names.

Kara Scott has her sights set on the Last Woman Standing Cup(TM). Unfortunately we don't know the exact number of woman left yet as too many French names could be chick names.

2009 WSOP Main Event Update: Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier Day 3 Chip Leader

Something tells us this guy isn't really an Indian. Or that the other guy isn't really Jesus.

Something tells us this guy isn't really an Indian. Or that the other guy isn't really Jesus.

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a “name” pro as the chip leader after a few days into the WSOP Main Event. It’d be easy to blame this on global warming, the threat of another terrorist attack, or on Dan Michalski, but in reality, it more has to do with the freaking enormous fields and countless amateurs in the Main Event who are in far greater number than the pros.

However, after Day 3 of the 2009 WSOP Main EventBertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, inarguably one of the hottest (non-looks-wise) players on the circuit, is the overnight chip leader stacked at 1,380,500.

ElkY is currently the only player over a mil in chips. He’s followed by Lacay Ludovic from fuck you France with 896,000.

Some notable names remaining include: Kenny Tran (666,500), Blair Hinkle (542,000), Kevin ‘BeL0WaB0Ve’ Saul (523,000), Justin Bonomo (517,500), Dennis Phillips (510,000), Phil Hellmuth (485,000), Kara Scott (456,500), Mike Sexton (414,000), David Benyamine (381,500), Phil Ivey (371,000), Prahlad Friedman (365,000), Lou Diamond Phillips (359,500), Kelly Kim (346,000), Joe Sebok (297,000), Paul Wasicka (294,000), Peter Eastgate (292,500), Antonio Esfandiari (283,500), Andy Black (277,500), Hevad Khan (272,500), and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson (232,500).

As you can see, there are clearly plenty of big names that will go deep and bust just shy of making the November NineTM, leaving us with a bunch of people we’ve never heard of before or likely never will again. Some names who were eliminated already though include Jeffrey Lisandro, Paola Martin, and Dee Dozier.

Get full(er) chip counts here. Also, 789 remain, which means we’re 141 from the money, which will be hit today.

And look out for our big announcement (tweeted here yesterday) coming soon…

Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier Wins PCA High Rollers

Elky_joker Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier is running good.

With a WPT and EPT title (last year's PCA Main Event) under his belt the past year (plus a creepy as fuck Joker costume), ElkY has now added the PCA $25k High Rollers championship and $433,500 to his resume. This victory boosts EklY's career live tourney earnings to $4,681,839.

The High Rollers field included 48 top pros and high stakes specialists. The final table included this insufferably annoying Humberto Brenes (5th, $70,800), Edwin James Olmos Eli Elezra (6th, $68,500), Daniel Alaei (7th, $57,000), and Nick Schulman (8th, $45,700).

ElkY defeated not noted top pro or high stakes specialist Will Molson ($228,000) for the title.

Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier Wins WPT Festa al Lago

Given his chip lead going into final table play, no real shocker that Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier captured the WPT Festa al Lago championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas yesterday.

Elky weilded is big stack aggressively (not as hot as it soundsTM), moving all-in in (not as hot as it soundsTM) time after time, pounding the rest of the guys at the table into submission (definitely not as hot as it sounds).

By the time Elky got heads-up with Nam Le, he held a 15-1 chip advantage, and wasted little time closing out him out and claiming the championship.

Elky banks $1,411,015 for the win and his first WPT title.

The rest of the final table pay-outs went: Nam Le ($943,215), Oddie Dardon ($506,245), Nenad Medic ($373,010), Adam "Roothlus" Levy ($266,445), and William Mietz ($186,510).
