The 2012 WSOP is just a few days away. Last year, the WSOP started off with a bang. On the first day of pro play, Phil Ivey issued a statement saying that due...
We’re two weeks out from when news originally broke about PokerStars acquiring Full Tilt Poker. While no officially announcement has come from either PokerStars or Full Tilt regarding the progress of the deal...
Dennis Phillips didn’t win the 2008 WSOP Main Event, but he carries himself as if he did.
Listen, we’re not ripping the guy for stepping up and filling the “poker ambassador” void left gaping open by Peter Eastgate, but he’s practically established himself as the Anna Kournakova of the game: he never won anything big but you’d never know from all the attention he gets. The big difference here, of course, is we weren’t Yahoo! image searching “Dennis Phillips up-skirt Wimbledon” when he was 16 years-old, but whatever.
Phillips and his white-shirt-St.-Louis-Cardinals-cap wearing minions (seen above) just busted right before break, going down in an impressive 45th place ($178,857). While we won’t fall victim to some so-called poker “media” hyperbole that this is one of the best ever WSOP Main Event performances, what he did was impressive as hell, and a final table Phillips run would’ve brought great press to the game.
With Phillips’ elimination, we’ve lost almost all of our “name” pros. Billy Kopp is still the chip leader. Phil Ivey is still fourth. Antonio Esfandiari and Leo Margets still remain.
FOWCP Joe Sebok was just eliminated from the 2009 WSOP Main Event in 56th place ($108,047).
Sebok has had an up-and-down Main Event and year on the circuit in general. Good to see him make a deep run though this past week.
At the first break, Billy Kopp is the chip leader stacked at 15,860,000. He’s followed by Darvin Moon (10,350,000), who one member of the so-called poker “media” said is “such a luckbox, he makes Chris Moneymaker look like Phil Ivey.”
Speaking of Phil Ivey, he’s fourth overall with around 8M.
Player eliminations have finally slowed down at the 2009 WSOP Main Event. After a quick run of bust-outs, we’re hanging in with about 115 remaining.
While this can change quickly, as of post-time Billy Kopp is the chip leader, stacked at 4,660,000. He’s followed by Charlie Elias with 4,400,000.
Tom Schneider (3.8M), Antonio Esfandiari (2.2M), and Phil Ivey (1.8M) are among the other big named big stacks.
As you can see in the above vid, Peter Eastgate was having a bad day, getting knocked down to around 400k at one point, but is currently back up to around 750k. He’s currently at the featured table with Dennis Phillips, the spectacularly-breasted J.C. Tran, and “Salty” Joe Hachem.
Both of our two Last Woman StandingTM are still alive. Nichoel Peppe has about 1.1M and Leo Margets has around 550k.
