U.S. Government Seizes Bodog Domain, Calvin Ayre Indicted

Calvin Ayre and other Bodog management were indicted by the U.S. government in Maryland today.

When Black FridayTM hit, many in the industry wondered, “How has Bodog managed to avoid prosecuation all of these years?”

You can stop wondering now.

On Tuesday, Federal prosecutors in Baltimore unsealed an indictment against Calvin Ayre (and other Bodog management) accusing them of operating an illegal sports betting business and conspiring to commit money laundering. The government also seized the (no longer used) Bodog.com domain.

However, bovada.lv is still up, running, and accessible.

Pre-UIGEA, Ayre was the most out-in-front executive in the online gaming industry. Bodog held an annual Marketing Conference at the WSOP, which Ayre attended. In March 2006, he even appeared on the cover of Forbes Magazine, taunting the U.S. government to “catch me if you can.” However, he quickly went lower profile after that. In April 2006, Bodog’s Wild Card Poker Show got sued. Then just weeks before it was to be held, Ayre cancelled Bodog’s annual Marketing Conference at the 2006 WSOP. He then went off to Asia to film a documentary.

Ayre eventually reemerged in 2008 to film a reality show (Calvin’s Heir). Post Black Friday, he has been a vocal member of the gaming community through his website, CalvinAyre.com.

Speaking of…expect to see a statement from Ayre on CalvinAyre.com sometime soon.

Read the indictment in full here and cliff notes on Forbes here.

UPDATE: That didn’t take long. Read Ayre’s statement here.

Bodog Announces It’s Out of U.S. Market

Bodog pulled out of the U.S. market to avoid being taken to the mattresses by the DoJ.

While everyone is focused on the Full Tilt Poker hearings in Alderney, Bodog drops a bomb: they’re pulling their brand from the U.S. market.

From the official announcement:

“Following recent news that Bodog UK has been granted a gambling license by the UK Gambling Commission, we are pleased to announce further developments to the Bodog brand going forward.

As highlighted last week, Bodog UK’s CEO, Patrik Selin believes the trust and credibility that having a UK license brings to the brand will benefit customers and allow him to attract the best talent in the industry to work with him.

However, in order to ensure the brand’s expansion is not affected by negative perceptions, both in the UK and elsewhere in emerging markets such as Asia, where Bodog88 is already successful, a decision has been made to withdraw the Bodog brand from the US market at the end of 2011. As a result, the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group’s (MMGG) brand licensing agreement will be allowed to expire on 31 December, following which US residents will no longer be able to access bodog.eu or any other Bodog branded website. We understand that MMGG will launch under its own brand in 2012, licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. All Bodog.eu clients’ funds will remain safe and they will have the option to switch to a new MMGG brand should they wish but MMGG confirms it’s business as usual…”

In reality, the announcement is only surprising in how steadfastly Bodog has believed over the years that it can successfully operate in the U.S. market. However, with increasing payment processing difficulties since The Events of 4/15TM and continued DoJ crackdown, we’ve anticipated the gradual departure of all U.S. facing sites over the course of the next year-plus. Just bound to happen.

Evy Ng Has Cracked the Code

Watch Evelyn Ng Is Ready To Get Back Into Tournament Poker on RawVegas.tv

At this stage, saying that Evelyn Ng lives the good life is as redundant as saying that Evelyn Ng lives the good life is redundant.

Not sure if she has incriminating photos of God or something, but things just kinda go her way without much effort. Good karma. In her latest vlog, Evy talks about her upcoming trips to San Francisco for the DJ Hero press pre-release party and to London for the WSOP Europe.

Bodog Sending Poker Blogger to 2008 WSOP Main Event

Bodog_girls_vanessa13_2Sometime between looking at Kate Walsh‘s distractingly nice rack at the Victoria’s Secret Super Bowl Party and trying to remember who the hell Kate Walsh was and why were we looking at her and not Adriana Lima and Karolina Kurkova, we got a reminder that the Bodog Poker Blogger Tournament Series starts up tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 5.

This is a new weekly tournament series for poker bloggers hosted by Bodog and featuring a Tournament Leader Board and a final freeroll tournament that awards the winner a seat to the 2008 WSOP Main Event as a member of Team Bodog, which means lots of personal attention from Bodog Girls when you’re in Vegas and when we say “personal attention” we mean really, really good conversation. Actually we don’t but one of our current/first wives is back reading the site so we’ll leave it at that.

Hey honey.

The series is opened to all online poker bloggers, as opposed to the ones who blog in notebooks.

For more on the tournament go here or www.bodogbloggertournament.com.

The girl in the pic above is Vanessa, one of our new favorite Bodog Girls.

After the jump more pics of Vanessa looking hot and kind of tall.
