Daniel Alaei Wins His 3rd WSOP Bracelet

carmel petresco

Whenever the name Daniel Alaei comes up, we wonder: Whatever happened to Carmel Petresco (above)?

With lackluster final tables on tap today and the 2010 WSOP Main Event just minutes away from starting, we were just going to skip past the final three preliminary events of the series. But Daniel Alaei win in Event #55 deserves a post of his own.

The 25-year-old has quietly and quickly amassed nearly $5 million in tournament winnings the past few years, and early this morning he won his third WSOP bracelet, taking down the the $10,000 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha World Championship to collect $780,599. Finishing second was Miguel Proulx of Canada, who picked up a WSOP bracelet earlier this summer in Event #25 ($2,500 buy-in PLO).

Add Alaei’s win to his total of five WSOP final table appearances, his recent WPT title ($15,000 buy-in 2009 Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic) and 7th place finish in the $50,000 buy-in Players Championship this year, and you have to put him up there as one of the top tournament pros on the circuit. And again, he’s only 25. Pretty sick. How many bracelets he can grab by the time he’s 30, only time will tell. But you have to give him good odds of surpassing Phil Ivey‘s record for youngest to reach 6 bracelets, which he did by the time he was 32.

2009 WSOP Round-Up: Van Alstyne Wins One, Alaei Goes for Two

micon-shorr-2009-wsop

Bryan Micon and Shannon Shorr just couldn't focus and capture that ever-elusive first bracelet.

:: Event #31 ($1,500 H.O.R.S.E.): After coming up short in the $3k HORSE event a week ago to finish second, James Van Alstyne finally grabbed his first WSOP bracelet. He earns $247,033. Not winning were NWP’s Bryan Micon (4th – $69,505) and our favorite guy-with-a-hot-girl-porn-star’s-name Shannon Shorr (5th – $50,881). Get full results here.

:: Event #32 ($2,000 NLH): Blah. Here.

:: Event #33 ($10,000 Limit Hold’em): The final table is basically a battle of dudes who Erick Lindgren and Daniel Negreanu back or have backed. In progress, Daniel Alaei is going for bracelet #2 of the 2009 WSOP and is the current chip leader. Also still alive are Matt Glantz, Greg ‘FBT’ Mueller, Pat Pezzin, and Chad Brown. Follow the action here.

:: Event #34 ($1,500 NLH): Around 150 remain as of post time. Cody Slaubaugh is the chip leader. Other big named big stacks include James Mackey (a ginger), Roland de Wolfe, ElkY, and Phil Hellmuth. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #35 ($5,000 PLO): Kind of early in this one, but Phil Ivey was bounced when his quads lost to a straight flush. Live poker is so rigged harharhar. Follow here.

2009 WSOP Round-Up: Daniel Alaei Wins Omaha 8B Championship

Shannon Elizabeth, a woman, did not make it to Day 2 of the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event.

No laughing matter: Shannon Elizabeth, a woman, did not make it to Day 2 of the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event.

Another “name” pro bags a bracelet and Brock Parker goes for number two. Here’s the round-up:

:: Event #18 ($10,000 Omaha 8B): It was a stacked final table that included Daniel Negreanu, Annie Duke (a woman), and the intense stare of Scott Clements. However, by the time heads-up play began, Daniel Alaei emerged as a man who needs to add a few consonants to his last name where is he from Ethiopia the overwhelming chip leader, quickly dispatching the aforementioned Clements in just two hands. For the win, Alaei banked $445,989 and his second WSOP bracelet. Get a full recap here.

:: Event #19 ($2,500 NLH Six-Handed): A lot of big names made the money but none of them will reach the final table. The remaining 10 will come back today to play down to the final table and title. Top two stacks are Joseph Serock (1,745,000) and Brock “tsoprano” Parker (1,603,000), who is going for his second bracelet in a week. It’s just like high school. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #20 ($1,500 PLH): Day 1 played down from 633 to 62. Jason DeWitt is the overnight chip leader, stacked at 184,700. Also remaining are Mark Seif (83,000), former college bball stand-out and friend-of-Erick-Lindgren Blake Stepp (76,800), Erik Seidel (61,400), Kathy Liebert (40,200), Roland De Wolfe (40,000), Mike Sexton (35,000), and Joe Sebok (24,000). Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #21 ($3,000 H.O.R.S.E.): The final event of the day had 452 entrants with 197 surviving. Rob Amereno is overnight chip leader, stacked at 96,800. Plenty of big names are still alive. See for yourself here, because you know what they say about seeing…it’s believing!

2006 WSOP Tournament Updates

Media tourney today. Main Event tomorrow. Here’s the recaps of yesterday’s action.

Alaei_1:: Alaei first, Williams second in Deuce-to-Seven Lowball. Already regarded as one of the best no limit cash game players in the world, Daniel Alaei (at right) continues his stellar tournament play by taking down the $5,000 + rebuys Duece-to-Seven Lowball event. Daniel has also played a part in raising the level of WCP fave Carmel Petresco’s game (who just finished 26th in the $1,500 NLH event last night). This is Daniel’s fifth cashing at this year’s WSOP and first bracelet. Alaei defeated another strong runner this year–David Williams–for the title, as well as a final table that included Men the Master, Greg Raymer, and Allen Cunningham.

:: Mad Dog Madsen at it again. Just to stick it to his arch-nemisis E-Fro even more in this completely fabricated yet ongoing feud, Jeff Madsen makes yet another run for a bracelet, this time finishing third in the $1,000 Seven Card Stud 8/OB event. For those keeping track at home (E-Fro), this makes two firsts and two thirds for Madsen at the 2006 WSOP. Sick. On a side note, Patrick Poels won the event, outlasting 788 to bank $172,091. This is Poels second bracelet–he won an Omaha 8/OB event last year.
