Ivan Freitez Wins 2011 EPT Grand Final

The only thing that 2011 EPT Grand Final winner Ivan Freitez has in common with Electra and Elise Avellan is that they're from Venezuela.

If you love friends and family final tablesTM with a bunch of Euros you’ve never heard of, then the 2011 EPT Grand Final was just for you!

Ok ok ok. It wasn’t all bad. Or all Euro. Ultimately, Venezuelan Ivan Freitez took the title, banking $1,500,000 (EUR). He defeated Torsten Brinkmann ($900,000 EUR) heads-up for the title.

The “notable” final table-ists were Juan Maceiras, who finished fifth ($315,000 EUR) and Alex Gomes, who was seventh ($185,000 EUR).

The two U.S. Americans (and not to get all Bill the Butcher, but barely) to make the final table, Eugene Nanayt and Andrew Li, finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

2011 EPT Grand Final Main Event Sees Big Decline in Numbers

In what should come as a surprise to no one, the 2011 EPT Grand Final saw a steep decline in numbers, dropping from a starting field of 848 last year to a total of 686 this year. 4/15: Never Forget.

However, the event still will produce a solid first place prize of $1.5M (EUR) and $900k (EUR) for second.

With Day 1A and 1B in the books, David “Mrdawwe” Sonelin of Sweden leads both flights, stacked at 275,000. He’s followed by U.S. American Brian England with 238,300.

The guy we’re rooting for so we can keep embedding the above song, Ole (Ole! Ole! Ole!) Kristian Nergard, led Day 1B with 198,200.

Some notable big stacks include Ivan Demidov (197,800), Xuan Liu, a woman (85,600), Jason Mercier (70,800), and Fatima Moreira de Melo, a woman (69,200).

Last year’s champ, Nicolas Chouity is still alive with 55,600.

And for those keeping track at home, none of the big Team Full Tilters like Lederer, Ivey, Bloch, Juanda, etc. showed up to play in the event.
