David “Chino” Rheems Wins First Epic Poker League Main Event

It was a big win for the poker community as Chino Rheem captured the first Epic Poker League Main Event.

How fitting.

David “Chino” Rheem captured the inaugural Epic Poker League Main Event.

For the win, Chino banked $1M. This marks Chino’s third million dollar plus score in three years.

Talk on Twitter and the forums immediately swirled around Chino paying off his multitude of backing debts, which Chino seemed to acknowledge and promised to make good on.

The “audience” (which–aside from friends and fam–were paid $64 to sit in the stands) witnessed the charismatic Chino defeat a mega talented final table (although maybe not the greatest ever, as Annie Duke claimed).

Coming in second was Erik Seidel ($604,330). This is Seidel’s 14th cash of the year, raising his 2011 winnings to over $6.2M.

The rest of the final table results were: Jason Mercier (3rd – $360,970), Hasan Habib (4th – $237,560), Gavin Smith (5th – $154,260), Huck Seed (6th – $107,980).

Finally, this.

Erik Seidel Wins WPT $100k Super High Roller

The 2011 poker circuit is still under the table, sucking Erik Seidel off.

Is this the best run-good in modern poker history?

Erik Seidel took down another high buy-in event, capturing the inaugural WPT Championship $100,000 Super High-Roller. For the win, Seidel banks $1,092,780. He defeated Erick Lindgren ($700,500) heads-up for the title.

In 2011 alone, Seidel has earned $5,590,166. This includes:

:: A fourth for $295,960 in the $25k PCA High Rollers.
:: A third for $618,139 in the $100k Aussie Millions High Rollers.
:: A first for $2,472,555 in the $250k Aussie Millions Super High Rollers.
:: A first for $144,570 in the $25k LAPC High Rollers.
:: A first for $750,000 in the $25k NBC National Heads-Up.
:: A second for $155,103 in the WPT Hollywood Poker Open.

Between winning all of these events and the fact that nobody can get money off the site he helped launch–Full Tilt Poker–Seidel is pretty much the epicenter of the poker economy at this point.

Where all of this places Seidel on poker’s all-time winningest player list is still debatable, depending on what tournaments you include for your list. He’s either first by a large margin or third.

Regardless, by any measurable, the 2011 poker scene has been owned by Erik Seidel.

And the DoJ.

Seidel, Lindgren Battle Heads-Up for WPT $100k Title

No longer in the background of poker's elite, Erik Seidel is piecing together one of the greatest circuit year's in poker history.

This one was a sick, sick final table.

The WPT $100k Super High Roller could’ve have asked for a better final table…if they had actually gone through the trouble of broadcasting the event.

Proving our point as to why the ONYX Cup would’ve been a great poker event, the WPT $100k was all marquee names, with a good mix of old-school and new-school, as the field got to the money. Erik Seidel, Erick Lindgren, Daniel Negreanu, Vivek Rajkumar, and Justin Bonomo all banked six-figure paydays.

Play went late into the night, with Daniel Negreanu eventually bowing out in third, earning $448,320.

Much to the undelight of people on Twitter with their money stuck on Full Tilt [who don't understand it's management/Ray Bitar's fault for not receiving your money and not the pros], Seidel and Lindgren ended play in a heads-up battle for the over $1M first place prize. Seidel has the lead, stacked at 7,120,000. Lindgren, who led much of the way during final table play, is stacked at 4,480,000.

First banks $1,092,780. Second earns $700,500.

Follow the heads-up play at 12:30pm PT Friday here.

In semi-related “Full Tilter winning big money” news, player rep Chris Porter took down a Stations Casino hold’em for $60k. So for those of you with money stuck who are looking for a good score to get some of it back, we suggest slapping a Full Tilt patch on your chest during your next tournament. Some major run-good going on there.

Erik Seidel Does Not Win WPT Hollywood Poker Open

Erik Seidel decided to let someone else win a tournament for a change.

In contention for his second World Poker Tour title, Seidel fell just short at the WPT Hollywood Poker Open, finishing second for $155,103. He was outlasted by local grinder Mike Scarborough. For the win, Scarborough banks $273,664.

Tom Marchese finished fourth for $77,551.

For those keeping score at home, this is Seidel’s eighth cash of the year, all final tables, and all in $5k or more buy-in events.

Selbst In Contention at NAPT Mohegun Sun; Seidel Has Shot at WPT Title

Lots of tournament action to report on from the weekend as just about every major tour has an event. As indicated by the headline, the big stories we’re following are if Vanessa Selbst can capture back-to-back NAPT Mohegan Sun titles and if Erik Seidel can continue his insane 2011 with a WPT win. The Jess & BJ Show above talks more WPT. We talk more on all the tournament action in the below recap(s).

:: NAPT Mohegan Sun - Going into Day 3, a total of 74 remain. Aaron Overton holds the chip lead, stacked at 598,700. He’s followed by Aaron Mermelstein with 382,500. In fifth overall is last year’s champ Vanessa Selbst, a woman, with 339,200. Plenty of interesting names remain, get full chip counts here.

:: WPT Hollywood Poker Open – The total field size increased by five to 97, and 27 remain. Andy Whetstone is the chip leader going into Day 3, stacked at 334,400. Shannon Shorr is second overall with 250,900. The aforementioned Erik Seidel is a top 10 stack and looking to add yet another title to his 2011 with 133,000. Amanda Musumeci, a woman, the girl Bodog signed last year but we haven’t seen much of since, is still alive with 57,900. Get full chip counts here.

:: EPT Berlin Ben “NeverScaredB” Wilinofsky won. Full recap here.

:: WSOP-C St. Louis - After a disappointing showing at Rincon, the WSOP-C rebounded in St. Louis, bringing in a field of 449 and first place prize of $142,290. A total of 93 survived Day 1. Harris Paroya is chip leader. Other notable big stacks include but are certainly not limited to two-time WSOP Main Event champ Dennis Phillips, one-time WSOP Main Event champ Greg Raymer, and Nadya Magnus, a woman, who was the loose cannon on PokerStars’ Big Game. Get full chip counts here.

:: HPT Colorado – A record field for this event, as 25 year-old Spencer Uniss took it down, banking $221,594. After the win, he said he was going to get a private jet and fly his friends to Vegas. Oh, to be 25 again. Fucker. Get full results here.
