Groupe Bernard Tapie Out of Full Tilt Poker Acquisition–PokerStars New Buyer?

Got money stuck on Full Tilt? You might not for long as PokerStars has reportedly stepped in and acquired the company.

Tapie tapped out. PokerStars jumped in.

In a rapidly developing story, it appears as if PokerStars has acquired Full Tilt Poker.

According to reports and sources, PokerStars will cover both U.S. player balances and globals player balances, as well as pay a Department of Justice fine.

As part of the deal, the DoJ will not block or oppose PokerStars from coming back to the U.S. upon regulation.

As we reported on Insider, GBT had no desire (or financial capital) to cover U.S. player balances. This move appears to be a DoJ-led effort to ensure U.S. players are paid back, get as big of a fine paid as possible, and in return, potentially let Isai Scheinberg/PokerStars walk from charges (our speculation).

UPDATE: GBT confirms they are out. Read at PokerStrategy here.

PokerStars issues a non-committal statement here.

Tommy Vedes Wins WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown

Tommy Vedes rebounded like Stacy Kiebler in 2012 to capture his second WPT title.

Tommy Vedes entered the 2012 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown final table as the short-stack.

However, like some metaphor that signifies overcoming odds and adversity, Vedes persevered. And when the final table was over, Vedes had all the chips, capturing his second World Poker Tour title.

For the win, Vedes banks $779,520. He defeated ex-November Niner John “Jimmy” Dolan ($459,360) heads-up for the title.

Joe Serock, who started the final table as big stack, finished third for $306,240. This is Serock’s second third in a WPT event this year.

It hasn't even begun filming, but Runner Runner is already the top grossing poker movie of all-time.

The first major Hollywood motion picture examining the world of online poker is set for production and has landed two A-list stars.

Runner Runner, written by Rounders scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien, has secured Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake for its lead roles. The movie focuses on an offshore gambling company and an increasingly tense relationship between a business founder (Affleck) and his protege (Timberlake).

The studio New Regency picked up the movie and Leonardo DiCaprio is among the producers. Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) will direct.

Runner Runner tentatively is planning a 2014 release.

Scott Seiver Wins PartyPoker Premier League V

The PartyPoker Premier League V wrapped this week in Vienna, Austria. This year’s event brought in 16 top players, creating a $1.4M prize pool.

After some complicated point system where six people made the final table and then they added two more people somehow–the remaining 8 competed for a $500,000 first place prize.

U.S. American Scott Seiver eventually won the event, capping off a great year-long run that also saw him final table the WSOP $50k event and capture the WPT Championship. He defeated Dan “Jungleman” Cates ($300,000) heads-up for the title.

The win pushes Seiver’s career tourney earnings to just shy of $5M.

Phil Laak finished third ($175,000) and Patrik Antonius came in fourth ($125,000).

Kevin Vandersmissen Wins 2012 Irish Open

Drinks at the Bellini Bar are on Kevin Vandersmissen tonight.

An impressive–dare we say star-studden?– field of 502 turned up for the 2012 Irish Open.

The event–streamed over the so-called Internet each day with really solid coverage– brought in the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Maria Ho, iSeriesLIVE winner James Dempsey, Andy Black, Faraz Jaka, Adam Levy, half-man, half-amazing Freddy Deeb, and many more.

In the end, Kevin Vandersmissen took the title, banking €420000. He defeated Thomas Beer ( €225,000) heads-up, who would probably have been the most name-appropriate winner in the field, unless someone named Guinness McBlarney had entered and we missed it.

Of the notables, Andy Black finished 8th (€32700), Adam Levy 14th (€15400), Freddy Deeb 27th (€11200), and Phil Hellmuth 33rd (€9400).
