The 2012 WSOP is just a few days away. Last year, the WSOP started off with a bang. On the first day of pro play, Phil Ivey issued a statement saying that due...

Our general rule-of-thumb when it comes to the online tournament world is: don’t report on it unless it’s a noteworthy payday/field/hook.
Enter the FTOPS XIX Main Event, as it covered all the bases.
With multi-entries allowed, the $600 buy-in event brought in 14,479 entrants and generated a prize pool of over $8.8M.
He-who-briefly-pwned-the-live-tournament-circuit-in-early-2008–Blair Hinkle–negotiated the biggest chopped score, banking over $1.1M for finishing second. The event was won by GIAMPP, who took home a slightly less impressive $877,950.
As you know, we typically don't report on online tournaments or live prelims unless something noteworthy happens.
So when FTP pro Gavin Smith, who is notably and admittedly not much of an online tourney player, wins a FTOPS event, it warrants mention.
Smith took down FTOPS Event #7 ($100 no-limit hold'em with rebuys), beating a field of 1,806 to bank $123,600.
Also warranting a mention is that this edition of the FTOPS is seriously missing its guaranteed marks. Whether it's The EconomyTM, poor marketing, over-saturation, or some other factor, it seems like the FTOPS has lost some of its luster.
Read a good breakdown of the FTOPS missing its mark at the Poker-King here.
Full Tilt Poker pro Erick Lindgren beat out a massive field of online poker players last night to capture the top prize in Event #9 of the FTOPS, the $300+$22 NLHE tournament. The high-stakes golfer and two-time WPT champ banked $291,748.57 for the win, more than 10 times what Paris Hilton’s new flick The Hottie and the Nottiegrossed this weekend.
Lindgren, who ironically was the host of the event that drew 5637 players, became the first Full Tilt pro to ever take down a FTOPS event.
According to this poker blog, the final two hands had people chatbox-ing “Fixed.” First, Lindgren flopped trip sixes to his opponent’s queens up, and then on the final hand held JJ and drew runner-runner diamonds for a flush when his opponent flopped a set of queens.
As expected, because people are dumb, some 2p2ers are crying “rigged” this morning over at this thread.
