This Week In Poker, Episode 3

Third Episode of This Week In Poker Now Up and Archived

Guests from our show on Tuesday included 11-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, newly minted 1-time WSOP bracelet winner and soon-to-be-a-dad Gavin Smith, recently featured in TIME magazine online pro Jason “Jaspuduf” Lee and WSOP VP Ty Stewart . If you missed it, watch it above or go to the official This Week In Poker page here.

It’s long so below are some highlights to go straight to:

:: Skip to 3:00 for the start of Gavin Smith‘s interview in which he talks about his emotional WSOP bracelet win,  judging Girls on the Rail with Jason Alexander and Brad Garrett last year and becoming a dad later this year.

::  At 21:10 the likable Jason “jaspudUF” Lee joins us to talk about not being Asian despite his name, his parody of The Maven’s “Day in the Life” video and the recent “Attack of the Math Brats” TIME magazine article.

::  At 46:54 Harrah’s Interactive & WSOP Ty Stewart stops by and breaks some news on changes to next year’s WSOP Tournament of Champions.

:: ~1 hour, 2 minutes in Phil Hellmuth takes a break from the PLO event to discuss his plans for his WSOP ME entrance this year and faces the clock in our first ever Poker Metaphor Signifying You Have to Act Quickly 60 Second Round segment.

:: 1:15:14: Ty rejoins us to finish off the show, and gets asked about that eerily-similar-to-the-WSOP-looking ESPN-televised tournament hosted by the site that rhymes with Toker Bars.

Of note, This Week in Poker is broadcasting live from the WSOP every Tuesday at 4:00pm PST. It’s an interactive format where viewers can ask guests questions live in the Ustream chat box or via Twitter and Facebook. Once the WSOP is over, we’ll be doing the show from the This Week In studios in LA with their slick set up and production crew. With the set up at the Rio, the production/show format’s obviously rough right now, thanks for baring with us over the next few weeks.

Also thanks again to our sponsor, Victory Poker.

Gavin Smith Wins First WSOP Bracelet

The second happiest moment in Gavin Smith's life.

The second happiest moment in Gavin Smith's life.

Ever since racking up a title along with 3 final tables and Player of the Year honors back in season 4 of the World Poker Tour, Gavin Smith has been one of the players most people put on their short list of Best Without a BraceletTM at the World Series of Poker. Since then though he’s only come close once, with a runner up finish at the 2007 WSOP in a $1500 PLH event. So yesterday when Smith, who’s undoubtedly one of the most liked guys on the circuit, entered the final table of the $2,500 Mixed Hold’em event as one of the chipleaders, players and fans alike were hoping this would finally be it, that he’d finally pull through.

But would he pull through?

The suspense is killing you isn’t it? That is, unless you already read the headline above and you heard about his win on Twitter 11 hours ago and have already read about it on every other poker news site by now.

And you actually watched his win live on ESPN3.com and saw his emotional interview afterwards when he got choked up before thanking E-Dog.

Or you’ve since watched the replay of it here.

But just in case you didn’t and for some reason this is the first sentence you’ve read in this post, Gavin Smith finally captured his first WSOP bracelet last night by taking down Event No. 44 ($2,500 Mixed Hold’em – Limit/No Limit).

Smith defeated Danny Hannawa heads up for the title, earning $268,238 along with the bracelet. Hannawa takes home $166,005 for his biggest tournament score to date. Notably, King of the WSOP Circuit events, Dwyte Pilgrim, finished 8th to pocket $27,438.

Gavin Smith Wins LAPC Main Event Last Longer Prop Bet

Being short-stacked probably never felt so good for Gavin Smith.

463 of the starting 745 made it to Day 2 of the 2010 WPT LAPC Main Event. Gavin Smith ranks 462nd in chips.

However, he out-lasted Joe Sebok and 9/11 conspiracist/rapper Jeff Madsen in their last longer prop bet. So sometime in the next couple of weeks, Joe Sebok with get both Gavin and Madsen’s faces inked on his body, and Madsen will get Smith’s mug somewhere on his skin. More to come on this later.

The 745 entrants is among the largest WPT fields in recent memory (BJ…?) creating a first place prize of $1,788,001. Masaaki Kagawa sounds like a really cool and sleek Japanese motorcycle is the Day 1 chip leader with 124,575. He’s followed by Mark Seif with 122,025.

Get full chip counts here. Watch the above and below the fold vids for everyone’s take on the tat prop bet. And let us know what you think of new tourney web host Jacque.

Gavin Smith Wins Fallsview Classic Poker Invitational

Leaving the Bahamas for Niagra Falls apparently wasn't a bad idea after-all.

In non-PCA poker tournament news, Gavin Smith grinded through a 19-hour final day to win the Fallsview Classic Poker Invitational’s $2,500 buy-in event.

This tourney was formerly known as the WPT North American Poker Championships. Smith outlasted a field of 267 to bank $188,743.

Looks like both he and 9/11 conspiracist/rapper Jeff Madsen are running good going into their LAPC tattoo prop bet with Joe Sebok.

Joe Sebok, Gavin Smith New Tattoo Prop Bet

Watch Prop Bets – LAPC Pt. II on RawVegas.tv

Looks like poker players Joe Sebok and Gavin Smith, as well as and 9/11 conspiracist/rapper Jeff Madsen are back at making crazy prop bets. This time though, it’s revisiting an old theme.

Seebs, Gavin, and Madsen are making a LAPC Main Event last-longer prop bet where the losers have to get the other two people’s faces inked on their body.

From Sebok’s blog:

Sooooo, Gavin, myself, and Jeff Madsen have all entered into a blood pact…quite literally…in the form of another last longer bet, and another tattoo consequence. This time a little scarier. Whoever is the fist person to bust at this year’s LAPC in Los Angeles will be forced to immediately get the other two fellow’s ugly mugs tattooed on his body…their damn faces (!)…right then…by an in house tattoo artist! The next to bust will only have to get the ultimate winner’s face tattooed on himself, so he gets out pretty easy. The last standing, of course, merely gets to laugh and watch as the other two get their new ink.
