Looks Like Las Vegas Is Losing a Famous Resident (CORRECTION)

Howard Lederer getting the eff outta dodge?

All right, we’re not going to add to the Full Tilt Poker pro pile on, at least regarding the venom pouring out towards the site’s alleged founders.

The Tilt U.S. cash-out problems have way more to do with the day-to-day (mis)management of Ray Bitar and others than the guys who founded the site. Maybe said founders could’ve paid a more critical eye to the books over the years, or player account funds could’ve been segregated from business operation funds [face palm], but who’s keeping track when you’re making A-Rod-money?

However, in light of The Events of 4/15TM, it looks like some of the associated founders are going to be taking a decidedly less high-profile role with the company, or potentially leave the country all together.

First, two long-time PPA Board members–Howard Lederer and Chris Fergusonare no longer part of the organization. Ultimately, Tilt is probably looking to cut expenses in the marketing department and the ONYX Cup and PPA were easy choices to scratch off the line-item expenses. Zing!

Second, it appears as if Howard Lederer’s dream $4.75M Las Vegas home is now up for sale.

Lederer spent years building the property, and it’s widely recognized as one of the sickest pads in Las Vegas.

Read more about it here. And you’ll need to register an account, but you can view the listing here.

UPDATE: Nevermind. Forgot Rule #1 of poker journalism. Always verify a story if your source is Gambling911. The above house listed is the house across the street. Blah.

UPDATE 2: Looks like this correction unpublished. Working through technical glitches between this and our Disquss comments.

Howard Lederer Tops Bluff Magazine’s Poker Power 20

Pictured above, three of the big swinging dwyte pilgrims who headline Bluff's Power 20.

The annual Bluff Power 20 was released today with Howard Lederer clocking in at #1.

The list was compiled from over 100 ballots sent to industry gaming leaders and media members.

Following Lederer is PokerStars founder Isai Scheinberg (the smoke you see way far off in the distance outside right now is the steam coming out of Isai’s ears).

Rounding out the top 5 are WSOP head Ty Stewart, Senator Harry Reid, and poker agent Brian Balsbaugh.

Chops/The Entities placed #18 this year.

See the full list after the jump. Read about it on Bluff here.

Phil Ivey In Contention for 9th WSOP Bracelet (UPDATE: Nevermind)

He’s still got a ways to go, but Phil Ivey is in contention for his 9th WSOP bracelet.

Ivey has made the money in WSOP-E Event #4 (£10,350 NLH High Rollers Heads-Up). Others making the final 16 (and a minimum £22,847 payout) include Andrew Robl, McLean Karr, our official pick to win it Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu, Gus Hansen, and Huck Seed. Holy shit that’s a good remaining list.

Watch the above vid with Gloria Balding where Ivey says he plans on chasing down Phil Hellmuth’s record 11 bracelets within “five years.” In related news, Phil Ivey is doing interviews?

Follow WSOP-E Event #4 reporting here.

In related WSOP-E news, amateur Scott Shelley record-blocked British pro J.P. Kelly from becoming the youngest player to win 3 WSOP bracelets and the first WSOP-E repeat champion by taking down Event #3 (£1,075 No-Limit Hold’em). Shelley banked £133,857 for the win, with Kelly taking home £82,854 for his runner-up finish.

UPDATE: Ivey was matched up against Gus Hansen, and had him drawing to two outs all-in after the flop, but Hansen spiked a set on the turn, and polished off the match a few hands later. Daniel Negreanu has advanced as well.

WSOP Tournament of Champions Streaming Live on ESPN3

Uncomfortable

ESPN is streaming the feature table of the WSOP Tournament of Champions right now over at ESPN3.com, and sure to keep the average 2+2 member glued to their computer screens today, which probably isn’t much different than how they spend every hour of every day, Daniel Negreanu and Annie Duke, a woman, are seated next to each other.

Of note, big brother Howard Lederer is supposed to be at the table but has yet to show up.

Watch it live here.

Follow the 2+2 chatter here.

The 27, including the Top 20 who were voted in, will play four one-hour levels today and Monday with play then concluding on July 4.

Howard Lederer Wins $10k HORSE Event At Festa Al Lago

Howard Lederer

Howard Lederer wins his first tournament in nearly two years.

Our Official Pick to Win ItTM Howard Lederer won the the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. event today at the 2009 Festa al Lago, beating Ralph Perry heads up and pocketing a cute $92,150. Only 19 players entered the event, including Eli Elezra, the Intense Stare of Scott Clements, Rod Pardey, Dan Shak, Jerry Buss, Andy Bloch, Michael Binger and David Singer.

While Lederer has been on a bit of a heater lately, making two final tables at the WSOP Europe, the win today was his first victory in nearly two years. A relieved Lederer went to Twitter afterwards, saying:

Whew, I got the win. Managed to hang on against a tough opponent. Feels good. First win in 20 months.

That win 20 months ago was the $100k buy-in event at the 2008 Aussie Millions against a field of 25.

Despite the win, Lederer still remains our Official Pick To Win It. Consider this his 2008 Canada Open Poker Championship. He’ll need a major win in an event with more players than a cheerleading squad before we look for a new “Official Pick to Win It.”
