Jason Mercier Wins Second WSOP Bracelet

Jason Mercier is...dare we say...the best tournament player alive?

In just over three years, Jason Mercier has established himself as the best tournament player on the circuit.

Check out the results. Pretty sick.

The 24 year-old has EPT, NAPT, High-Roller, and NLH, PLO, and H.O.R.S.E. titles. And now, he’s got two WSOP bracelets to his credit.

Mercier won Event #35 ($5,000 PLO Six-Handed) and banked $619,575. The win pushed his career earnings to over $6.1M. He also already has 18 career WSOP cashes (including four this year), giving him a good 18 more career cashes than Falcon Henne.

Mercier defeated Hans Winzeler ($383,075) of Miami, FL for the title. Steven Merrifield ($239,100) was third and David “Chiubacca” Chiu was fourth ($156,628).

Jason Mercier Repeats NAPT Mohegan Sun High Rollers Title

Jason Mercier makes it back-to-back back-to-back NAPT Mohegan Sun champs...

This year’s broadcast is going to look a lot like last year’s broadcast.

On Wednesday, Vanessa Selbst took down back-to-back NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event title. One day later, Jason Mercier went back-to-back in the High Rollers event.

Mercier banks $246,600 for the win, pushing his career earnings to just shy of $5.5M. He defeated Eugene Katchalov ($68,000) for the title.

In completely and totally unrelated news, read what may be one of the greatest emails ever written here.

NAPT Mohegan Sun: Selbst Second at Final Table; Mercier Guns for High Rollers

We'll go out on a limb and say that Vanessa Selbst is on the verge of becoming the first woman to win the same major event in back-to-back years.

The 2011 NAPT Mohegan Sun got two made-for-TV final tables that should make ESPN happy.

In the Main Event, Vanessa Selbst, a woman who likes women, is in second overall as she goes for her second consecutive title. Selbst is stacked at 2,249,000. She only trails Tyler Kenney with 3,021,000.

Also making a final table run are Dan “Beth sure seems to be enjoying my half” Shak (1,571,000), Joe Tehan, whose name still looks too much like Tehran for our liking (1,238,000), and Steve O’Dwyer (1,032,000).

First place banks $450,000.

In the $10,000 High Roller Bounty Shootout, Jason Mercier, who is kind of like a young Erik Seidel in these types of events, made the fiver-person final table.

This final table will take place on Thursday. Get full chip counts here.

2011 WPT LAPC Brings Big Field; Jason Mercier Among Day 1 Chip Leaders

Jason Mercier finds himself in familiar position as he's among Day 1 chip leaders at the WPT LAPC.

A total of 666 entered Day 1 of the 2011 WPT LAPC Main Event. Registration remains open for a portion of Day 2, and while it’s unlikely the field will top last year’s 745 (and $1.7M+ top prize), first place should still end up earning over a milli.

The chip leader at the end of play was Mike Baxter with 125,400. He’s followed by Ronnie Ebanks (121,575) and a guy whose name looks like we just vomited over our keyboard, Arkadiy Stekoeshchikov (111,000).

Also among the big stacks was Jason Mercier (106,625), who also claimed the RISE Clothing Player of the Day (watch vid here). Other notable bigs include Gavin Griffin (96,750), Joseph Cheong (81,000), Layne Flack (80,000), Blair Hinkle (75,000), Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi (68,525), and Jonathan Little (65,725).

Ofir Mor has 40,000.

A total of 507 remain. Get full chip counts here. Watch Jess Welman and BJ Nemeth’s “LAPC Confidential” here.

The Best Thing CardPlayer Has Ever Done

CardPlayer was once the industry giant for poker news (today, it’s Poker News).

However, their shoddy reporting of the 2006 WSOP began the downfall. And Barry Shulman’s strong-arming tactics left many in the industry rooting against the mag.

Recently, they’ve fallen off the relevancy map, unless you love strategy articles on how to bet sixth street in seven card stud hi/lo.

This is a shame, as they employ a really solid staff of journalists who don’t get enough credit for the good work they do.

Fortunately for the aforementioned journalists, they banged out the above video, which may very well be the best thing that CardPlayer has ever done.

After watching it, we’re convinced that CardPlayer employed the same filming techniques with Jason Mercier as David Fincher did with Armie Hammer in portraying the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network.

Seriously the resemblance between Mercier and his evil twin is uncanny.

In related news, 24 remain in the WSOP Circuit $10k Regional. John Patgorski leads. Justin Smith, David “Bakes” Baker, Shannon Shorr, Brandon Adams, Bernard Lee, and Adam Levy also remain. Get full chip counts here.
