Jean-Robert Bellande Gets Rubbed

Watch Busting Out of the $1,500 NLH Jean-Robert Sounds Off on RawVegas.tv

Jean-Robert Bellande has the right idea. When things are going bad, release some of the tension with a good rubdown.

Could be worse though for this “broke but living like a millionaire” poster boy, as he’s only down $4k at the 2009 WSOP so far. And the massage he got was free…

Daniel Negreanu Leads WSOPE Event #1 Day 1A

World_series_of_poker_europe_2008This first WSOPE event of 2008 is shaping up to be a good one.

Daniel Negreanu ended Day 1A of WSOPE Event #1 (£1,500 No Limit Hold’em) as the chip leader, stacked at 74,900. He’s followed by Jason Gray with 72,800. Brandon Cantu is not far behind with 54,200. Among the other 42 who survived to Day 2 include John Juanda (27,000), Surinder (French?) Sunar (14,200), and Erik Seidel (7,000).

Day 1B has started and lots of big names are among the early chip leaders. The awesomely named Azzy Asghar is current chip leader with 15,000. He’s followed by Howard Stern’s love-child Isaac Haxton (14,975), Jean-Robert Bellande (14,100), Allen Cunningham (12,600), and the absolutely positively must be Britishly named Simon Higgins (12,500).

2008 WSOP Day 1D Update: The Year of the Pro(TM) Had a Good Day

Shannonelizabethday1d1

Shannon Elizabeth needs to show more leg at the 2008 WSOP Main Event. What’d we lose a war? Is this Pakistan?

Hopefully we’re not jumping the gun on this one as there is still an hour to go…but with many big name big stacks on Day 1D of the 2008 WSOP Main Event and few big knock-outs, let’s just say that The Year of the ProTM didn’t even have to use its AK.

With an hour to go, some big names with lots of chips include Carlos Mortensen, Aaron Kanter, Johnny Chan (who has done nothing funny this WSOP), Antonio Esfandiari, Jean-Robert Bellande (watch him pwn Charles Barkley again here), Gus Hansen, Allen Cunningham, Jen Harman, a woman, and Phil Hellmuth and his ego.

Also still alive though not thriving include Beth Shak (a woman), Jerry Yang, and Shannon Elizabeth and her legs (unfortunately not seen above).

Notable bust outs include Phil Ivey, David Williams, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Annie Duke, a woman, Patrick Bruel (has a hot girlfriend), Vinnie Vinh, Eskimo Clark, Tom Schneider, our favorite scarf-wearing Euro Dario Minieri, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, Shaniac, and Layne Flack.

Guys who could kick our asses but won’t be around the Rio to do so because they’re out on Day 1D are Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell and Jose Canseco.

Jean-Robert Bellande Owns Charles Barkley in HORSE

At the Bodog Life party at the Palms in Las Vegas last Friday night, Survivor: China‘s Jean-Robert Bellande took on Charles Barkley in a game of HORSE. Except Sir Charles didn’t make much of a game of it. Unless the point of HORSE was to miss the rim…and backboard…by as much as you possibly can.

While Barkley was no Reggie Miller in his prime, he wasn’t Ollie from Hoosiers chucking up granny balls either.

Whether or not Barkley can own Bellande in the poker version of H.O.R.S.E. remains to be seen, but given Chuck’s rep around town, Jean-Robert probably doesn’t have much to worry about.

2008 WSOP Update: The Year of The Pro(TM) Not Dead Yet

2008 WSOP updatesWell, it looks like it all comes down the the Main Event this year to determine if the 2008 WSOP will forever be known as The Year of the ProTM or as something else. Fortunately, as reader "Mike" pointed out here, the man who won the $10,000 PLO tournament, Marty Smith, is in fact an Irish pro, which definitely helps.

:: Event #52 ($1,500 No Limit Hold’em) - Pro poker player David Daneshgar took this one down, winning his first WSOP bracelet and banking $625,443. Daneshgar defeated Scott Sitron (not a pro), for the title. Ginger pro Dan Heimiller finished third. Get full results here.

:: Event #53 ($1,500 Limit Hold’em Shoot-out) - Survivor’s Jean-Robert Bellande could’ve put away The Year of the ProTM race with a win, but he came up just short of his first bracelet. JRB lost heads-up to Matt Graham, who is arguably pro material with four cashes in this year’s World Series of Poker. Graham banks $278,180 for the win. Get full payouts here.

Main Event starts tomorrow at noon PST. Check back with WickedChopsPoker.com for regular updates.
