The 2012 WSOP is just a few days away. Last year, the WSOP started off with a bang. On the first day of pro play, Phil Ivey issued a statement saying that due...
We’re two weeks out from when news originally broke about PokerStars acquiring Full Tilt Poker. While no officially announcement has come from either PokerStars or Full Tilt regarding the progress of the deal...
Jennifer Tilly is going to try and help Lisa Simpson win her own WSOP bracelet.
This is a good one to cap off “poker in pop culture week.”
Jennifer Tilly and her spectacular breasts will appear on an episode of next season’s The Simpsons. From EW.com:
The actress and poker expert will make a cameo appearance in an episode as herself, popping up in an instructional DVD that Lisa watches to brush up on her card skills. (It turns out that Homer doesn’t trust banks and has stashed Lisa’s college fund in an online poker site.)
For those of us with money still stuck on Full Tilt–this one resonates a little close to home.
Tilly was married from 1984-1991 to Simpsons’ co-created and renown Hollywood home gamer Sam Simon.
Last night’s SNL was heavy on the celeb impersonations. One aforementioned impersonation we were surprised to see was a Kristin Wiig take on poker player/Academy Award nominee Jennifer Tilly.
The Back to the Future 25th Anniversary DVD takes were some of the standout on last night’s show (hosted by one-time WPT Celebrity Poker Invitational player Jon Hamm). Check out the above for Tilly (we’re pretty sure this vid will be removed shortly from YouTube, and it’s not up on SNL’s Hulu site).
And for those in the Halloween spirit, watch a hilarious Vincent Price skit here.
In completely unrelated news, Daniel Negreanu was knocked out in 4th at the EPT Vienna, falling short of his chase for the Triple Crown. However, Jason Mercier is still in the hunt for his Triple Crown at the WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals.
The first episode of This Week in Poker is now up and archived.
Guests this week included Dr. Pauly from Tao of Poker and Jennifer Tilly. If you missed it, watch it above or go to the official This Week in Poker here.
Next week’s guests scheduled to appear include Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari. Really cool poker instructional segment planned with Daniel as well.
Jerry Yang (right foreground) has now cashed in three 2010 WSOP events...
Event #26 ($2,500 NLH) is in the money, and Jerry Yang has now made his third cash in this year’s WSOP, or approximately three more cashes than he had in 2008 and 2009 combined.
Yang is currently among the big stacks, along with another whatever-the-eff-happened-to-good-to-see-you-again Joe Bartholdi. Get full chip counts here.
In unrelated news, WSOP TOC voting ends in just a few hours…so go and vote here. And if you go vote here, be sure to stuff the ballet for our friend Jennifer Tilly.
FOWCP Jennifer Tilly joins Phil Hellmuth and Dr. Pauly as the first guests on This Week in Poker...
