John Racener On Entourage

Poker players love them some HBO shows.

Erik Seidel made a background cameo on Curb once. Antonio Esfandiari and Chris Moneymaker showed up on Entourage last season. And now John Racener does the same.

In the above scene (sure to be removed from YouTube soon), Racener is playing cards in an Andrew Dice Clay home game.

Hopefully he charges less rake than Shannon Elizabeth.

And really, that’s about it.

For some classic Diceman go here.

2011 WSOP Update: Violette, Racener Lead Respective Events

John Racener is chewing up the competition in Event 23...

:: Event #22 ($1,500 PLO) – Down to a final table in this event with Juha Vilkki leading the way when play gets underway later today. In an impressive display of PLO dominance, Vilkki went wire to wire in pole position during Day 2. David “Doc Sands” Sands enters second to last in chips, and the rest… only their mothers could love. Winner walks with $292,825. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #23 ($2,500 Eight-Game Mix) – 2010 WSOP Main Event runner-up and serial DUI-er John Racener finished up Day 2 of this event with a healthy chip-lead over second-place Mayu Roca Uribe. Other notables remaining in the 25-player field include Eric Buchman, John Juanda (on another deep run… maybe he can single-handedly win enough this summer to solve FTP’s issues), Ylon Schwartz, Marco Traniello and Max Pescatori. Winner receives $278,144 for their efforts. Full chip counts here.

:: Event #24 ($5,000 NLHE Shootout) – Obviously no chip leader in this format, so here’s a list of notable players who are among the 40 who survived their respective tables: JP Kelly, James Dempsey, Justin Bonomo, Adam Junglen, Gavin Smith, James Akenhead and Erik Seidel. All remaining players will walk away with a little something for their troubles with the winner receiving $436,568. Get the live reporting here once play gets underway.

:: Event #25 ($1,500 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8oB)Cyndy Violette, a woman, kinda leads the way in this event after Day 1 since she’s tied with Hernan Novick for the top spot. Lurking further down the field are co-voice-of-the-WSOP Norman Chad and Mike Sexton, both of whom are now after the coveted and elusive 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8oB Commentators Cup™. Also still alive are durrrr, Frank Kassela, newly-announced Team RISE Poker Pro Scotty Nguyen and a whole host of others among the 172 remaining players. Full chip counts here.

John Racener Arrested for Third DUI (MUGSHOT)

Just call a cab next time, man.

Damn, that’s a good lookin’ mugshot.

2010 WSOP Main Event runner-up John Racener, 24, a dude we like and dubbed Good for PokerTM, got the third DUI of his young life on Saturday, December 11th around 4:07am ET in Tampa, Florida.

From the St. Petersburg Times:

Racener, of South Tampa, was arrested at about 4 a.m. at W Azeele Street and S Westland Avenue. He refused blood-alcohol testing, and was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on $1,000 bail, jail records show.

Reached by phone, Racener’s manager, Jeff Gigante, confirmed the arrest but said he hadn’t yet talked to Racener and was not ready to comment.

Racener has been arrested in Hillsborough County three times before — on charges of driving under the influence in 2005 and 2007 and on a misdemeanor battery charge in 2009, accoridng to jail records.

Wonder if this is going to make the movie?

Listen, about half of our friends have gotten a DUI. It happens. But it usually only happens once. Three is a lot. For his sake and other drivers in Tampa and Vegas’ sake, let’s hope this is his last. Not cool.

Read the full arrest report here.

August 2009 mugshot here.

Vanessa Rousso, A Woman, Leads Stacked WPT Five Diamond Final Table

Vanessa Rousso attempts to put the final stamp on what could be the Year of the Woman(TM) in poker.

Earlier in this week we said we had a feeling this would be one of the best World Poker Tour final tables ever, and it pretty much shaped up that way. There’s not a single no-name friends and familier among the remaining six.

Vanessa Rousso, a woman, who went to Duke, where she went to Duke, leads the final table at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Rousso will attempt to do what every other woman in the entire world has failed to accomplish: win a WPT open title.

Rousso will enter the final table stacked at 5,830,000. She’s followed by 2010 WSOP Main Event runner-up John Racener with 3,235,000.

In third overall is a fresh-off-Daniel-Negreanu-controversy-at-the-Big-Game Andrew Robl with 3,210,000. In fourth overall is Kirk Morrison (2,650,000), who only plays 3 1/2 events per year and seems to run deep in all of them.

In fifth overall is one of the original WPT millionaires, Antonio Esfandiari (2,105,000), who makes his first WPT final table in six years.

The short-stack is WSOP bracelet winner Ted Lawson (the annoying Ire Ire guy) with 635,000.

Get a full recap from the WPT live updates team here.
