Kara Scott is among the surprise names in the 2010 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship field list.
The full field for the
NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship was released today.
With so many automatic qualifiers there isn’t room for too many surprises. However, some names that did stand out on the list included:
- Kara Scott: We’re big fans of Kara, but apparently her hostess gig with the WPT carries more weight within the industry than we thought?
- Jamie Gold, Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer: Looks like former WSOP ME champs will continue getting invites for another year.
- Dennis Phillips: Same goes to non-former WSOP ME champs who people think are former WSOP ME champs.
- Annette Obrestad: This is the first big-time televised event she’ll be playing in the States. Expect big things.
- Phil Gordon: He didn’t play last year and doesn’t play much anymore in general.
- Phil Laak: Yeah, he’s running good for the past week, but that doesn’t excuse the past five years.
- Johnny Chan: People still care about him?
The field feels a little light on the celebrity/athlete angle too. Just the usual suspects of Don Cheadle, Jennifer Tilly, Orel Hershiser, and Gabe Kaplan. No Michael Phelps. Not even…dare we say…Trishelle.
Also, Layne Flack did not get an invite back this year. Wonder why.

Interesting…VERY…interesting.
We’ve been Kara Scott, a woman, fans for awhile now. Super cute, very cool, and driver of lots of “Kara Scott nude” Google search results to our site.
We’re with Pokerati in wondering, “How has PokerStars not snatched her up yet?” Instead, in one of the more interesting player signings we’ve seen, PartyPoker has brough Scott on as a team member.
Yet another sign that Party is angling for their inevitable U.S. return?
Also…Party now owns the World Poker Tour. So like we said…interesting…VERY…interesting.

Kara Scott has her sights set on the Last Woman Standing Cup(TM). Unfortunately we don't know the exact number of woman left yet as too many French names could be chick names.

Kara Scott, a woman, was among the many red-coat lovers who played WSOP Day 1B. She ended play stacked at 21,925.
As expected, it was a low turnout of America-haters on July 4th yesterday. Clearly all 873 people who played World Series of Poker Main Event Day 1B don’t appreciate the sacrifices made by people like George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams in freeing ourselves from the oppressive rule of Great Britian and creating the greatest democracy the world has ever known. One thing is certain, we’re 1000000% sure that this guy didn’t play yesterday.*
Anyway, instead of getting drunk at Phil Gordon’s BBQ and watching a spectacular fireworks display, Brandon Demes ended Day 1B as chip leader, stacked at 137,075. He’s followed by somebody who we guess would rather be paying high taxes on tea, Andrew Gaw, with 126,100. In probably the least shocking news ever, Fabrice Soulier played yesterday, chipping up to 97,725.
Stamp Act loving and FOWCP Joe Sebok had a roller coaster day. He took some bad beats early on, losing half his stack, then went on a run up to 79,000 by the end of the day. Our pick to go deep, Aurangzeb ‘Ozzy87′ Sheikh, who let’s just say if we saw his name on a passenger manifesto we’d get the fuck off the flight, ended with 59,675. FOWCP Jim Hess, a torrey, closed the day with 57,400. And Mike Matusow goes into Day 2 with 37,875.
Some big names not making it to Day 2 include Doyle Brunson, David “The Dragon” Pham**, and Chris Moneymaker.

* Kidding, one of the great things of U.S. America is if you want to play poker on the 4th of July, you have the freedom to do so. Fuck you, France.
* Not a real dragon.

It was all business in the front, party in the back at the 2009 WSOP yesterday.
While the big storylines of the day were Nick Schulman’s first bracelet win and the introduction of Tig Bits to the newly created Girls on the Rail Hall of Fame (we’re creating one, and will have you guys select the first inductees, which we’ll set up sometime soon… so probably in two weeks to a month), there was plenty of action in all poker disciplines yesterday at the 2009 WSOP. Here’s the breakdown:
:: Event #24 ($1,500 NLH): The field played down to 20 last night with most of the big names bowing out. Andy ‘BKiCe’ Seth is the overnight chip leader, stacked at 1,250,000. Never trust a guy with two first names. Only other person most of you would know remaining is Dean Hamrick (guy who just missed out on the November NineTM last year) with 510,000. The completely adorable Kara Scott (video blog below) finished 58th. Joe Sebok went out in 104th. It’s just like high school. Get full chip counts here.
:: Event #25 ($2,500 Omaha/7CS 8B): With 14 remaining in this Omaha/Seven Card Stud hi/lo mixed game, Jon ‘Pearljammer’ Turner, a ginger, has built a sizable chip lead, stacked at 465,000. He’s followed by Carlos Mortensen with 328,000. Other big stacks include but are certainly not limited to Dutch Boyd and Phil Ivey. Get full chip counts here.
:: Event #26 ($1,500 Limit Hold’em): With Day 1 in the books, 124 of the starting 643 remain. Jan Von Halle, not a woman, but a German, is big stack with 68,300. Other big named big stacks include Justin Bonomo (44,800), Paul Darden (39,300), and Barry Greenstein (32,200). Get full chip counts here.
:: Event #27 ($5,000 PLO Hi/Lo): The final event of the day brought in a field of 198. The overnight chipleader is J.D. Newitt, whose poker playing is quickly making us forget about the certain emailing incident that we won’t ever mention again from this point “forward,” with 185,900. Other big named big stacks include Roland de Wolfe (dude is heating up), Amnon Filippi, Andy Black, and Daniel Negreanu. Get full chip counts here.
