Lauren Kling is among, get this, SIX women remaining in the WPT LAPC Main Event.
We’re not sure if
Mark Newhouse so much
charged to the top of the WPT LA Poker Classic Main Event leaderboard as he did climb or ascend to it, but charged was a strong adjective for us on a Monday morning, so we went with it.
Newhouse ended Day 3 as chipleader, stacked at 498,000. He’s followed by Chris Moore, a ginger, with 489,000. In third overall is Japanese motorcycle Masaaki Kagawa with 432,000.
In all, 72 players remain (and they’re all in the money). Day 2 chipleader Daniel Negreanu is still alive, although he stacked ‘em offTM. His chip count dipped to 222,500, which is still above average.
Other notables remaining include but are certainly not limited to Annie Duke, a woman (321,000), Johnny Chan, wait, Johnny Johnny Chan? Yep Johnny Chan (218,000), Prahlad Friedman (208,000), Hoyt Corkins (206,500), Erica Schoenberg, a woman (189,000), Vivek Rajkumar (157,500), Vanessa Rousso, a woman (46,000), Lauren Kling, a woman (44,000), and Jon Turner, a ginger (31,500).
More from a few months ago when we said Kling had potential here.

Poker could use more girls like Lauren Kling.
You first saw Kling at the March Dream Team Poker tournament (view here). She went to Berkeley. She uses words like microcosm. What does microcosm mean? Here, let’s use it in a sentence. “Seeing Lauren Kling in a bikini gives us a microcosm in our pants.” In related news, see Lauren Kling in a bikini here.
Seriously though, Kling seems like a cool poker chick and may be an early front-runner for the Last Woman StandingTM at the 2009 WSOP. (side note: Tiffany Michelle won’t repeat, she didn’t play due to a “big project”). Not cool is though that guy lurking in the background during the video. Clearly that must be her boyfriend or something. He just sat there the whole time giving our camera guy this intense stare. Not the Intense Stare of Scott Clements intense but “don’t even think about asking this girl out or I’ll check-raise your ass into that podium behind you,” intense. We’ve never seen anyone be able to stay so still and lurk so much as that guy behind her. He could easily give Joe Sebok and Gavin Smith a run for their money in a staring contest. Seriously, this is just an interview, dude. You don’t need to sit there the entire time, still and without any movement, towering over your presumed chick, do you? And does anyone know who that guy is? Just sitting there the entire time. Staring. Crazy.
Anyway, Day 2A is underway. Get updates here.
