Carlos Mortensen Leading WPT LA Poker Classic

Johnny Chan is going deep again.

With 22 remaining, Carlos Mortensen heads into Day 5 of the WPT LA Poker Classic as the chipleader.

Mortensen, who already took down one of the prelim events at the LAPC and is gunning for his third WPT title, has the best ROI in WPT events among any player, so yet another deep tourney run shouldn’t be a surprise. He starts the day stacked at 1,669,000.

Mark Newhouse is second overall with 1,308,000. Other notables remaining include and are certainly limited to Japanese motorcycle Masaaki Kagawa (1,129,000), Johnny Chan (500,000), and Annie Duke, a woman (241,000).

Play has started so follow the action here.

Mark Newhouse Charges to Top of WPT LAPC Leaderboard

Lauren Kling is among, get this, SIX women remaining in the WPT LAPC Main Event.

We’re not sure if Mark Newhouse so much charged to the top of the WPT LA Poker Classic Main Event leaderboard as he did climb or ascend to it, but charged was a strong adjective for us on a Monday morning, so we went with it.

Newhouse ended Day 3 as chipleader, stacked at 498,000. He’s followed by Chris Moore, a ginger, with 489,000. In third overall is Japanese motorcycle Masaaki Kagawa with 432,000.

In all, 72 players remain (and they’re all in the money). Day 2 chipleader Daniel Negreanu is still alive, although he stacked ‘em offTM. His chip count dipped to 222,500, which is still above average.

Other notables remaining include but are certainly not limited to Annie Duke, a woman (321,000), Johnny Chan, wait, Johnny Johnny Chan? Yep Johnny Chan (218,000), Prahlad Friedman (208,000), Hoyt Corkins (206,500), Erica Schoenberg, a woman (189,000), Vivek Rajkumar (157,500), Vanessa Rousso, a woman (46,000), Lauren Kling, a woman (44,000), and Jon Turner, a ginger (31,500).

More from a few months ago when we said Kling had potential here.

Neverwin May Be a Bit Dramatic

Neverwin v. Newhouse all the way to the Supreme CourtDustin “Neverwin” Woolf posted this morning over at NWP a rambling rant about his ongoing money mess with Mark “Newhizzle” Newhouse, suggesting that Newhizzle is about to take his case to court.

And we’re not talking People’s Court, although that would be awesome.

Says Neverwin:

“First off I want everyone to know that this is no laughing matter. This is serious business. Is it possible this can be as big as the People vs Larry Flint (hey Larry is a great stud player too)? Will the courts take a case involving gamblers, debts, stakers, loans, poker players, and gambling on poker sites that are now illegal to play on since the UIEGA has passed? Does this case have enough thunder to go all the way to the supreme court? Stay tuned as the details will be unraveled. Everyone has decided to jump the gun and side with Newhouse. Wow, just wow. Are most of you people that ignorant to base your decision solely on hearing one side of the story and not the other?”

In case you missed that this was serious business, the severely ADD-suffering Neverwin goes on to say, “Yes this is serious business ladies and gentleman. Who is the victim? Who is the bad guy? Who is the good guy? Is that a new freckle on the back of my hand?* It is the real moment of truth.”

For how not to be annoying go here.

* He may not have said that.
