Mohsin Charania Wins 2012 EPT Grand Final

That was a close call.

It almost happened again.

In 2007, Annette Obrestad almost caused an early end to civilization. Obrestad, a woman, captured the first WSOP Europe Main Event title. While the skies opened, and fire did in fact rain down from the heavens, and the seas did rise, and Swiss musician Jean Balissat met his untimely passing…the world as a whole did not in fact end that day.

As we all know, according to the Mayans, the end will actually happen this year. Probably not too long after our civilization starts having Death Races (also supposed to happen this year). Regardless, the end nearly started sooner than we all anticipated as Lucille Cailly,  a woman, came thisclose to capturing the 2012 EPT Grand Final.

Fortunately for humanity, Mohsin Charania saved us all, or for another few months at least. After some deal cutting negotiating, Moshin won the 2012 EPT Grand Final, banking €1,350,000 and defeating Cailly (€1,050,000) heads-up for the title.

Cailly, had she won, would’ve actually become the first woman to beat a man in anything since Obrestad’s 2007 WSOPE victory. For real. Google it. Hasn’t happened.

Pokerist.com Signs Carmen Electra As Free-to-Play Poker Endorser

BAM! Pokerist is not afraid to shove a pair in your face.

In a brilliant customer acquisition move circa 2001, Pokerist has signed Carmen Electra as the face of its free-to-play hold’em mobile, Facebook, and online games.

For those unfamiliar, with nearly 100,000 daily active users (DAUs), Pokerist is actually the #2 Facebook poker game behind Zynga. Its DAUs nearly lap the WSOP Facebook game.

Whether or not this leads to more celebrity endorsers of free-to-play poker remains to be seen. Zynga has shown something close to a zero percent interest in dipping their toes into the sponsorship waters.

But as even free-to-plays jockey for market presence as the U.S. inches towards online poker regulation, it’ll be interesting to see if more celebrity–and actual professional–poker players get inked by platforms that currently have no current interest in generated rake.

Confirmed: PokerStars Acquires Full Tilt Poker (UPDATED)

Hey Ray, can you waste 7 months negotiating with a company that doesn't really have the money to buy us, and then let the DoJ circumvent us to sell our company to our biggest competitor who we hate? Thanks.

We’ve been working various sources to independently confirm Poker Fuse’s initial report of PokerStars acquiring Full Tilt Poker.

According to those aforementioned sources, the deal is in fact done. PokerStars is acquiring Full Tilt Poker. The $750M price tag (which includes player balances and DoJ fines) initially reported on 2+2 and Poker Fuse is also accurate.

We’ve been told by people connected to the Groupe Bernard Tapie investment group that the French company is “shocked” about the development. As we’ve noted before, GBT’s ability to pull off the ISPT will be greatly hampered, if not completely sunk, without a stable online poker platform.

More details to come as we receive them…

UPDATE: We’re hearing the final terms of the deal should be signed by all parties within a week. The $750M price tag may also increase. The DoJ has a lot of leverage here and may be flexing their muscles now.

Justin Bonomo Wins 2012 EPT €100,000 Monte Carlo Super High Roller

Justin Bonomo, who attended this 2009 WSOP Bodog bowling party, captured his biggest live payday at the 2012 EPT Monte Carlo Super High Roller.

Justin Bonomo entered final table play of the 2012 EPT €100,000 Monte Carlo Super High Roller as the massive chip leader. He ended final table play with a massive pay day, capturing the title and banking €1,640,000.

Bonomo defeated Germany’s Tobias Reinkemeier (€1,064,000) heads-up for the title.

This makes only the second win of Bonomo’s live tournament career (he captured a WSOP-C event in 2009). The victory nearly doubles his career earnings, pushing him over the $5M mark.

Daniel Negreanu started final table play third overall. A win would’ve pushed Negreanu past Erik Seidel on the career live tournament earnings list, but instead he finished sixth for €310,000.

Patrik Antonius finished fourth for €443,000.

Temp Hutter did not play in the event.

Groupe Bernard Tapie Out of Full Tilt Poker Acquisition–PokerStars New Buyer?

Got money stuck on Full Tilt? You might not for long as PokerStars has reportedly stepped in and acquired the company.

Tapie tapped out. PokerStars jumped in.

In a rapidly developing story, it appears as if PokerStars has acquired Full Tilt Poker.

According to reports and sources, PokerStars will cover both U.S. player balances and globals player balances, as well as pay a Department of Justice fine.

As part of the deal, the DoJ will not block or oppose PokerStars from coming back to the U.S. upon regulation.

As we reported on Insider, GBT had no desire (or financial capital) to cover U.S. player balances. This move appears to be a DoJ-led effort to ensure U.S. players are paid back, get as big of a fine paid as possible, and in return, potentially let Isai Scheinberg/PokerStars walk from charges (our speculation).

UPDATE: GBT confirms they are out. Read at PokerStrategy here.

PokerStars issues a non-committal statement here.

Developing…big Insider analysis coming Thursday.
