Mike Kosowski Wins $1M on PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge

Good news: Mike Kosowski won that stack of money next to Michelle Nunes. Bad news: Michelle Nunes doesn't come with the money.

Michelle Nunes PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge

PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge wraps this weekend (Dec. 27 after the NFL on FOX) on a high-note.

Mike Kosowski, a 21-year vet of the NYPD and first responder to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, defeated Daniel Negreanu heads-up for $1,000,000.

Kosowski’s story was chronicled in the book “Never Forget: The Oral History of September 11.” Kosowski was among the first NYPD to enter the World Trade Center after the Government terrorists flew planes in to them. We’ll let the PokerStars press release tell the story after that:

From there, getting pelted with glass and debris, he hustled to World Financial Center, in hopes of helping make sure that building was clear. Inside, he found eight people trapped. Determined to bring them to safety, Kosowski was leading the group through a back exit when an explosion rippled through the area, launching Kosowski 10 feet through the air. He slammed into a wall. Though adrenaline kept him from feeling the full force of the pain, that impact herniated three discs in his neck, two in his back and left him with pain in his legs.

Kosowski spent the rest of the day, and the better part of the next few months, searching the debris at Ground Zero and on the Staten Island landfills for human remains. He was given the Medal of Valor for his actions that day.

This week’s episode may be the most watched poker broadcast of all-time…although Madsen probably thinks it was all a highly choreographed Government conspiracy designed to take down Full Tilt and filmed in the same bunker where they filmed the moon landing.

Joanna Krupa on PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge

The original Wicked Chops Poker Girl of the Year, Joanna Krupa, killed it on PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge.

Krupa went 2-0 in her matches (although only one was shown). She looked good. She probably smelled like a Pineapple Cilantro candle from Tommy Bahama. Somewhere, Shannon Elizabeth is thinking, “Enough already with this shit I’m gonna the bitch.”

Read more about her appearance here. Some vid interviews here. And without clothes on here.

For the MMA fans, go here for Tito Ortiz on last week’s show.

Joanna Krupa to Appear on PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge

Hopefully Joanna Krupa will wear this during her appearance on PokerStars' Million Dollar Challenge.

Hopefully Joanna Krupa will wear this during her appearance on PokerStars' Million Dollar Challenge.

We blame you, Middle U.S. America.

We blame you for not voting enough for Joanna Krupa on Dancing with the Stars, even though she was clearly one of the two best celebs on the show. We further blame you for letting that dork Donnie Osmond ham it up and win.

See, like two years ago with Shannon Elizabeth, Joanna Krupa (and specifically, ‘Joanna Krupa naked’ and ‘Joanna Krupa Derek Hough’ searches) fueled a fantastic traffic spike to Wicked Chops Poker.

Then she was gone. Booted before her time.

However, we thank you, PokerStars, for bringing her on as a celeb contestant on your Million Dollar Challenge show.

We’ve learned that PokerStars will be announcing Krupa’s appearance sometime this week. This is a good thing for multiple reasons. The first Million Dollar Challenge episode logged 4M viewers, the most people to ever tune into a poker broadcast. While that’s not quite the 20M DWTS churns out, it’s not bad for at least a little spike in Joanna Krupa poker searches that we’ll inevitably get.

Also, of course, gives us another excuse to post pics of her and do another post on the Million Dollar Challenge. So there’s that too. Let’s just say that if Stars announced Mekhi Phifer was going to be a celeb guest, we’re not doing a post on it. See, that’s why Stars is killing it now. Smart people over there in Gibraltar making smart decisions. Hopefully this will lead them into sponsoring her for the 2010 WSOP Main Event. Hint hint. Nudge nudge.

PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge Debuts Today on FOX

The PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge premieres today after the NFL on FOX wraps.

Given the lead-in, it could end up being one of the most watched, if not the most watched, poker broadcasts of all-time.

The show follows a similar games show-esque format that Face the Ace did. From early buzz we’ve heard though, in comparison to Face the Ace, it has way better pacing, casting, and doesn’t have Steve Schirripa.

The first contestant on today’s episode: a priest.

We’re intrigued. Definitely worth a first episode watching, at least.
