The Intense Stare of Scott Clements Does Not Win His Third Bracelet

The third time is becoming a pain in the ass for The Intense Stare of Scott Clements.

The third time is becoming a pain in the ass for The Intense Stare of Scott Clements.

Despite coming into final table play in Event #27 ($5,000 PLO 8B) with a sizable chip lead, The Intense Stare of Scott Clements did not capture his third WSOP bracelet.

Instead, Roland de Wolfe overcame one of the more talented final tables of the 2009 WSOP to claim his first [bracelet].

For the win, de Wolfe banks $246,616 and becomes only the second player, along with Gavin Griffin, to claim a WSOP, WPT, and EPT title. Roland defeated Brett Richey (this guy) in heads-up play.

The Intense Stare of Scott Clements bowed out in third. This is the second time in a week that Clements just missed out on his third bracelet. However, Clements and his intense stare clearly pwn Omaha games, so he’ll have another few shots at it over the next couple of weeks.

Kate Nguyen Busted

Meet the future Mrs. Negreanu or Mrs. Greenstein

Meet the future Mrs. Negreanu or Mrs. Greenstein

Lots of action going on today but our trusty photog had his lens focused on Kate Nguyen for most of the day.

Like Evy Ng, Liz Lieu, and Maria Hooooooooo! before her, Nguyen is another hot Asian entry into the poker degenosphere. She is also the 369th entry in Poker Pages player database for the name Nguyen. Kate made it down to around 160th in Event #28 ($1,500 NLH) and sat next to Liv Boeree for a good portion of play. More pics coming.

In other updates, all that stands in The Intense Stare of Scott Clements‘ way for bracelet #3 is Brett Richey and Roland de Wolfe. Follow their Event #27 (Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split-8 or Better) battle here.

And in other other updates, Round 4 of Event #29 ($10,000 NLH Heads-Up) is underway with Brock Parker, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Justin ‘BoostedJ’ Smith, Johnny Chan (no, seriously) and Mike Caro (no, seriously serious, although his Round 3 is the only one still going on…) still alive.

2009 WSOP Round-Up: Clements, Brodie Go For Bracelets

To those of you saying this weekend has been slim picking for Girls on the Rail, we hear ya.

To those of you saying this weekend has been slim picking for Girls on the Rail, we hear ya.

Another stacked weekend of tourneys. Phil Ivey winning his seventh bracelet in Event #25 (and second of the 2009 WSOP) was the big story, but there was plenty of other action to follow. For the sake of the poker economy, let’s hope the Lakers pull out the NBA title tonight.

:: Event #24 ($1,500 NLH): Panayote “Pete” Vilandos won his second WSOP bracelet (the first one coming in 1995 against a final table that included Annie Duke and Howard Lederer), banking $607,256. He defeated Andy Seth (never trust a guy with two first names) heads-up for the title. Dean Hamrick finished fifth. Allan Jaffrey wore an unfortunate hat while finishing sixth. Get full results here.

:: Event #26 ($1,500 LH): Play grinded down to 15 last night. Al “Sugar Bear” Barbieri takes the chip lead to today’s play with 400,000. Also remaining are 2008 bracelet winner Rep Porter (196,000) and Richard Brodie (152,000). Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #27 ($5,000 PLO 8B): The Intense Stare of Scott Clements makes another attempt at bracelet #3, taking a huge chip lead into the final table. Clements is stacked at 801,000. He’s followed by Anthony Lellouche with 533,000. This solid final table also includes Roland de Wolfe (386,000), Alex Kravchenko (267,000), and Andy Black (182,000). Get full chip counts here.

Event #28 ($1,500 NLH): A field of 2,638 played down to around 300ish. Ways to go. Some notables include but are certainly not limited to Ivan Demidov (view his first Russian vlog on WCP RU here), Liv Boeree, a woman, and Kelly Kim, not a woman. Get full chip counts here.

Event #29 ($10,000 NLH Heads-Up): The field of 256 completed two rounds. Some big names advancing include Antonio Esfandiari, Vanessa Rousso (a woman), David “The Dragon” Pham*, Scott Fischman, Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan, Erik Seidel, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Johnny Chan (still a big name?), and Mike Caro. Evelyn Ng and her boyfriend, Lex “Evy’s Boyfriend” Veldhuis, both won their first round matches and lost their second. Below is their vlog from the event. Get the full remaining field here.

2009 WSOP Round-Up: Daniel Alaei Wins Omaha 8B Championship

Shannon Elizabeth, a woman, did not make it to Day 2 of the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event.

No laughing matter: Shannon Elizabeth, a woman, did not make it to Day 2 of the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event.

Another “name” pro bags a bracelet and Brock Parker goes for number two. Here’s the round-up:

:: Event #18 ($10,000 Omaha 8B): It was a stacked final table that included Daniel Negreanu, Annie Duke (a woman), and the intense stare of Scott Clements. However, by the time heads-up play began, Daniel Alaei emerged as a man who needs to add a few consonants to his last name where is he from Ethiopia the overwhelming chip leader, quickly dispatching the aforementioned Clements in just two hands. For the win, Alaei banked $445,989 and his second WSOP bracelet. Get a full recap here.

:: Event #19 ($2,500 NLH Six-Handed): A lot of big names made the money but none of them will reach the final table. The remaining 10 will come back today to play down to the final table and title. Top two stacks are Joseph Serock (1,745,000) and Brock “tsoprano” Parker (1,603,000), who is going for his second bracelet in a week. It’s just like high school. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #20 ($1,500 PLH): Day 1 played down from 633 to 62. Jason DeWitt is the overnight chip leader, stacked at 184,700. Also remaining are Mark Seif (83,000), former college bball stand-out and friend-of-Erick-Lindgren Blake Stepp (76,800), Erik Seidel (61,400), Kathy Liebert (40,200), Roland De Wolfe (40,000), Mike Sexton (35,000), and Joe Sebok (24,000). Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #21 ($3,000 H.O.R.S.E.): The final event of the day had 452 entrants with 197 surviving. Rob Amereno is overnight chip leader, stacked at 96,800. Plenty of big names are still alive. See for yourself here, because you know what they say about seeing…it’s believing!

2009 WSOP Update: Negreanu, Duke Make $10k Omaha 8B Final Table

The Intense Stare of Scott Clements is intensely staring down a potential third bracelet.

The Intense Stare of Scott Clements is intensely staring down a potential third bracelet.

Daniel Negreanu is crushing the 2009 WSOP.

In an impressive response to Jeffrey Lisandro‘s Event #16 victory (and to his own crushing runner-up finish in Event #14), Negreanu has stepped up and final tabled yet another event. He is currently fourth in chips going into final table play in Event #18 ($10,000 Omaha 8B). A win here would put him and Erick Lindgren way out in front in their POY prop bets with Barry Greenstein and company. Negreanu trails the intense stare of Scott Clements (staring intensely above), who is chip leader with 1,445,000. Also alive are John Monnette (940,000), Daniel Alaei (540,000), and Annie Duke (225,000). We’ll have a Negreanu vlog from the break up soon.

Elsewhere, the Ladies Event is playing down its final table now. How do we know this? Because any time one of the ladies wins a hand, her cheering section screams like a sorority girl who hears the first few bars of “Come on Eileen” in a cheesy dance club.

Elsewhere elsewhere, less than 80 remain in Event #19 ($2,500 NLH Six-Handed). Among those remaining is aforementioned Erick Lindgren, racking up more POY points for the aforementioned prop bets. Layne Flack, Brock Parker, Men the Master (he’s still alive?), and Howard Lederer also remain.

Not alive in the Omaha 8B championship or any other event right now is Jean-Robert Bellande, who below discusses his now not-so-secret secret weapon which didn’t turn out to be much of a weapon at all.
