2009 WSOP Round-Up: Van Alstyne Wins One, Alaei Goes for Two

micon-shorr-2009-wsop

Bryan Micon and Shannon Shorr just couldn't focus and capture that ever-elusive first bracelet.

:: Event #31 ($1,500 H.O.R.S.E.): After coming up short in the $3k HORSE event a week ago to finish second, James Van Alstyne finally grabbed his first WSOP bracelet. He earns $247,033. Not winning were NWP’s Bryan Micon (4th – $69,505) and our favorite guy-with-a-hot-girl-porn-star’s-name Shannon Shorr (5th – $50,881). Get full results here.

:: Event #32 ($2,000 NLH): Blah. Here.

:: Event #33 ($10,000 Limit Hold’em): The final table is basically a battle of dudes who Erick Lindgren and Daniel Negreanu back or have backed. In progress, Daniel Alaei is going for bracelet #2 of the 2009 WSOP and is the current chip leader. Also still alive are Matt Glantz, Greg ‘FBT’ Mueller, Pat Pezzin, and Chad Brown. Follow the action here.

:: Event #34 ($1,500 NLH): Around 150 remain as of post time. Cody Slaubaugh is the chip leader. Other big named big stacks include James Mackey (a ginger), Roland de Wolfe, ElkY, and Phil Hellmuth. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #35 ($5,000 PLO): Kind of early in this one, but Phil Ivey was bounced when his quads lost to a straight flush. Live poker is so rigged harharhar. Follow here.

The spectacularly-bested J.C. Tran (above) tries to make it two bracelets in two years today. More pics from this shoot linked below.

Some ho-hum winners yesterday but also lots of top pros in contention in a number of tourneys today. Here’s the run-down:

:: Event #28 ($1,500 NLH): Mike Eise (we’re 100% sure someone will have an Eisey Does It! headline…and hey look whaddaya know) defeated a friends and family final tableTM for his first bracelet and $639,331. Get full payouts and results here.

:: Event #29 ($10,000 NLH Heads-Up): Missing out on a chance to be relevant again, Johnny Chan got KO’d in the quarters, meaning no bracelet #11. Dustin “Neverwin” Woolf was knocked out in the same round. So it’s Brit John Duthieag against U.S. American Leo Wolpert for the title today at 2pm PT. It’s just like high school.

:: Event #30 ($2,500 PLO): Here we go, a solid final table with four bracelet winners. Ross Boatman will take the chip lead into final table play, stacked at 718,000. Also remaining are Theo Jorgensen (419,0000), the spectacularly-breasted J.C. Tran (above, more pics here, 387,0000), Rami Boukai (325,000), and John Juanda (129,000). Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #31 ($1,500 H.O.R.S.E.): The field of 770 is down to an interesting mix of 23. Fabrice Soulier who eats frog legs is chip leader with 351,000. He’s followed guy-with-hot-porn-star-girls’-name-searching-for-first-bracelet Shannon Shorr with 32,500. Also still remaining including but are not limited to Joe SeRock (152,500), Vanessa Rousso, a woman (131,000), James Van Alstyne (130,000), NWP‘s Bryan Micon, and Paul Darden (Year of the Brother!) 54,500. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #32 ($2,000 NLH): A field of 1,534 entered the $2k no-limit hold’em event, with around 225 making it to Day 2. Some notable big stacks include Peter “Nordberg” Feldman, Alex Bolotin, and Neil Channing. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #33 ($10,000 World Championship Limit Hold’em): The final tourney of the day had 185 entrants with 157 making through to today. Jennifer Harman-Traniello, a woman, is the chip leader stacked at 127,600. She’s followed by Maria Hooooooo! (113,400), Josh Arieh (112,100), and Shaun Deeb (106,000). Surprisingly, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and Phil Ivey were all among the early eliminations. Get full chip counts here.

WPT Championship: Scotty Nguyen Adds Blue Diamond Almonds Bold Player of The Day To List of Accomplishments

A total of 32 poker titles. Five WSOP bracelets. One WPT title. One $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. title. One WSOP Main Event title. And now, finally, Scotty Nguyen can add a Blue Diamond Almonds Bold Player of the Day to his long list of accomplishments.

With just 10 remaining, Nguyen holds the chip lead at the WPT Championship, stacked at 5,880,000. If Nguyen wins this tourney, he'll end up just a few hundred grand behind Jamie Gold as the all-time poker tournament money winner.

Nguyen is followed by Yevgeniy Timoshenko, a woman, with 5,105,000.

Also remaining is porn star Shannon Shorr with 3,155,000. Shorr has been one of the most consistent players on the circuit for the past few years, is always near the top of various Player of the Year standings, yet receives practically no pub. A WPT TV final table appearance at this championship would definitely change that…if people still watched the WPT on TV.

We keed. We keed.

Also still alive is ElkY Grospellier with 1,965,000. We get it ElkY, you're good. Enough already. Leave some tournament money for everyone else.

Full chip counts here.

Shannon Shorr Thinks He Should Be in NBC Heads Up, Shaniac Thinks He’s “Delusional”

Not-shannon-shorr
More in line with what we think a "Shannon Shorr" should look like…

Our favorite guy-with-a-hot-porn-star's name Shannon Shorr is "shocked" that he failed to make the 64-person NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship field again.

In his latest blog, Shorr says:

"I will go on record (as I did after the 2006 calendar year) as saying I'm shocked that I don't make the list. After very closely examining the list, Michael Binger, Nam Le, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Michael Martin, Vivek Rajkumar, Amit Makhija, Adam Geyer and Hevad Khan are probably somewhere wondering WTF! as well. No one in the poker tournament industry besides Nam Le, JC Tran, and David Pham has matched my consistency over the last 3 years on the tournament circuit and in that time I have NEVER been selected to play the NBCHUPC."

While Shorr definitely has been one of the most consistent players around, he has gotten virtually no TV time, so he really has no argument here. Shane "Shaniac" Schleger seems to agree, although in more blunt terms than us. Shaniac calls out Shorr's "distinctly delusional blog post" and writes:

"Shannon, get a grip. You should be ashamed for putting yourself in the same sentence as Le, Tran, and Pham, who essentially dwarf the entire poker tour community with consistency and moneymaking."

Read in full here.

UPDATE: Shannon Shorr still not in. Ivan Demidov had to drop out and is replaced by Hevad Khan.

UPDATE II: Got a TOKE coming later today with a bunch of hot models and GoDaddy.com at Caesar's…developing.

2008 WSOP Update: Shorr, Seidel and Hachem Among Leaders on Day 1 of Event No. 43

Shannon Shorr is among leaders in Event No. 43 at the 2008 WSOP

Shannon Shorr (above photo, on right) is among the Day 1 leaders in the $1,500 buy-in Omaha Hi-Low event at the 2008 WSOP.

A total of 720 runners entered Event No. 43, the $1,500 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split-8 or Better event, today, bringing the prize pool to just under a mil with first getting $216,249, or about $70k less than what you could fetch Phil Ivey‘s old SLR for on eBay.

Last we looked there were 82 players remaining and one good-from-afar-but-far-from-good girl on the rail. Really, photo-worthy railbirds have been slim to none the past few days. Let’s step it up ladies. We have a site to run.

Current chip leaders just before midnight include Erik Seidel, who’s gunning for his first bracelet of this year’s WSOP, Joe Hachem, who just might be the next Joe Hachem, compulsive WSOP casher Berry Johnston, and the guy with the girl’s name Shannon Shorr. Layne Flack and his teeth are also making a move up the leader board late tonight just got eliminated.

Stacked the most right now is the generically-named Ed Smith, who has quietly amassed around $270k in WSOP earnings over the years.

Keep track of chip counts here.

Check out WSOP daily video recaps over at PokerListings.

Hot girls in the WCP forum here.

* Despite the overall lack of talent along the rail lately, the girl below was seen over the weekend and from all accounts is one of the hottest yet. Hopefully she returns because our photog was drunker than a peach orchard boar, whatever that means, when he snapped the shots below.
