Phil Hellmuth got big exposure on a recent ep of Storage Wars.
We’ve never watched Storage Wars (it’s no Bachelor Pad) and hadn’t even heard of it until a few months ago, but apparently it’s A&E’s top show, reaching over 5.3M viewers recently.
So it’s impressive that Phil Hellmuth finagled a segment appearance on a recent episode (Unlocked: Sell High). Skip forward to around the 14:00 mark here.
In semi-related reality news, Survivor debuted last night, and poker player Jim Rice survived the first tribal council. However, he made a potentially bad tactical decision by not supporting the girl (Semhar) who was voted off at the end of the challenge.
Watch that clip around the 44:30 & 47:00 mark here.

Meet Jim Rice: poker player, marijuana dispenser, next Survivor champ?
Survivor 23: South Pacific announced its cast, and “poker player” Jim Rice is among the contestants.
Rice you may not remember from winning a Festa al Lago prelim event in 2006 or final table-ing a Heartland Poker Tour tournament this year.
Jim, who is good friends with Paul Wascika, also played the Main Event this year at the World Series of Poker. He claims on his CBS Survivor bio page to have won “over 40″ poker tournaments (we’re assuming online).
Aside from poker, Jim owns/operates a medicinal marijuana shop in Colorado. We think he owns this shop with Wasicka but have not confirmed that yet.
While we expect Jim to out-perform Jean-Robert Bellande‘s Survivor performance, we don’t expect him to be more entertaining. Can’t top JRB.
See the full cast here.

Johnny Chan will be eating a lot of bananas if he's on Survivor 22 in Nicaragua.
Some rumors circulating on this one so let’s just get the SEO train going: is Johnny Chan going to be on the next season of Survivor?
Really, that’s all we got. Some forum chatter on a poker player perhaps being on the cast of Season 22. And then Johnny Chan didn’t update his twitter page for awhile (read July 29th and then Oct 3). So obviously it’s true.
In reality, Johnny Chan on Survivor rumors ultimately just gives us another reason to post the above photo and take a break from consecutive World Poker Tour posts.
So yeah, read more here.

At the Bodog Life party at the Palms in Las Vegas last Friday night, Survivor: China‘s Jean-Robert Bellande took on Charles Barkley in a game of HORSE. Except Sir Charles didn’t make much of a game of it. Unless the point of HORSE was to miss the rim…and backboard…by as much as you possibly can.
While Barkley was no Reggie Miller in his prime, he wasn’t Ollie from Hoosiers chucking up granny balls either.
Whether or not Barkley can own Bellande in the poker version of H.O.R.S.E. remains to be seen, but given Chuck’s rep around town, Jean-Robert probably doesn’t have much to worry about.

Well, it looks like it all comes down the the Main Event this year to determine if the 2008 WSOP will forever be known as The Year of the ProTM or as something else. Fortunately, as reader "Mike" pointed out here, the man who won the $10,000 PLO tournament, Marty Smith, is in fact an Irish pro, which definitely helps.
:: Event #52 ($1,500 No Limit Hold’em) - Pro poker player David Daneshgar took this one down, winning his first WSOP bracelet and banking $625,443. Daneshgar defeated Scott Sitron (not a pro), for the title. Ginger pro Dan Heimiller finished third. Get full results here.
:: Event #53 ($1,500 Limit Hold’em Shoot-out) - Survivor’s Jean-Robert Bellande could’ve put away The Year of the ProTM race with a win, but he came up just short of his first bracelet. JRB lost heads-up to Matt Graham, who is arguably pro material with four cashes in this year’s World Series of Poker. Graham banks $278,180 for the win. Get full payouts here.
Main Event starts tomorrow at noon PST. Check back with WickedChopsPoker.com for regular updates.
