2010 WSOP Update: Matt Matros Wins First Bracelet

The story of the day was definitely Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan‘s run at a first bracelet (and attempt to drain the poker economy of millions of dollars). Still some other good storylines from over the weekend. Here’s the recap.

:: Event #12 ($1,500 LH) – Matt Matros of Brooklyn, NY (let’s hear it for New Yoooooooooork) bested a field of 650 to win his first bracelet, banking $189,870. Terrence Chan finished third for $83,185. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #13 ($1,000 NLH) – A total of 3,042 entered the latest weekend $1k NLH event, with 566 remaining for Day 2. Andy Black is the overall chip leader, stacked at 90,275. He’s followed by Pedros Preis with 78,550. Get full chip counts here.

:: Event #14 ($1,500 2-7 NL) - The final table is set, with Nick Binger ending the day still as chip leader with 309,500. Mike Wattel is fourth overall with 146,000. Get full final table chip counts here.

:: Event #15 ($10,000 7CS 8oB) - The final event of the weekend brought in 170 players with 112 making it to Day 2. Marco Johnson ended the day as big stack with 121,500. Some guy named Phil Ivey is third overall with 109,800. Rounding out the holy triumvirate, Phil Hellmuth has 48,000 and Daniel Negreanu is stacked at 37,700. Get full chip counts here.

Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan Does Not Win Bracelet, Poker Economy Temporarily Saved

This is what Phil Ivey's wallet would've looked like had Tom 'durrrr' Dwan won his bracelet prop bet.

Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan came thisclose to capturing his first WSOP bracelet. Holding the chip lead in Event #11 ($1,500 NLH) for the majority of the final day, durrrr eventually finished second, banking $381,885. Simon Watt took the title and his first bracelet, earning $614,248.

However, the real story here are the untold millions that will now stay within the poker economy as durrrr was not able to cash in on his numerous bracelet prop bets.

We’ve heard some sick, sick amounts of cash durrrr would’ve cleared had he won. SICK.

High stakes nosebleeders were sweating the final table hard. As Daniel Negreanu tweeted throughout the night:

The atmosphere in the room is electric. So many of us have bets against Durrr winning. 3 left and we are sweating hard! / Durr just doubled up and the rail cheered while most of the people in the stud 8 moaned and cried. / Congrats to Tom Dwan! We were all rooting for you… To come second! Wow I escaped. What a sweat that was. / Just finished chatting with Durr. That kid is amazing. Rather than jump off a bridge he is smiling and gearing up for the next one. Cool cat.

We haven’t used this term since our old trip reports, but let’s just say had durrrr won, bedlam would’ve ensued.

Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan Could Be Very Wealthier After Tonight

Tom 'durrrr' Dwan could be on the verge of a huge payday...

So all the buzz around the 2010 WSOP right now is if Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan can win his first bracelet–and ship a ton in prop bet earnings.

According to Benjo, there was a Big Gamers meeting, presumably, to discuss buy-outs on their durrrr bracelet bets (read tweet here) .

And according to PokerListings, Huck Seed already bought out of his bet with durrrr and Eli Elezra could be losing an assload.

As of post-time, durrrr is chip leader again, after briefly losing it, with seven remaining. Should be interesting. Follow the action here.
