WPT Venice: Best Looking Dealer Ever?

Mama mia!

The 2011 WPT Venice is underway, with Day 1B bringing in 200 players.

A total of 158 survived the day, with Samuel Corda leading the way.

But that’s not the main story here.

Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of poker dealers. Thousands. Most of them are male. A few are female. And nobody would confuse any of those female dealers with FHM models. Except for maybe Hal Lubarsky since he can’t see.

Enter the above haunting beauty. It’s like the WPT put a Royal Flush Girl at the table. Bravo, encore WPT Venice.

James Dempsey Wins 2011 WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic

Lesson learned: doing a favor for a friend can sometimes pay big dividends.

And think, he wasn’t even supposed to play in it.

James Dempsey came to Las Vegas as a favor to his friend Chris Moorman. The Brit was asked by Moorman to pick up some money owed to him.

A week later, Dempsey gets to pad his own pockets with $821,612 and his first World Poker Tour title.

Dempsey captured the 2011 WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic on Sunday, defeating Soi Nguyen ($517,478) heads-up for the title.

Vanessa Selbst, a woman, finished third ($338,351), just as Vanessa Rousso, a woman, did in this event last year.

Antonio Esfandiari went out quickly in sixth place ($119,418).

Selbst, Esfandiari Headline WPT Five Diamond Final Table

Antonio Esfandiari and Vanessa Selbst will attempt to bag up a WPT title on Sunday.

For the third year running, the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic has a stacked final table.

In 2009, Daniel Alaei bested a field of 329 and final table including Josh Arieh, Faraz Jaka, Shawn Buchanan, Scotty Nguyen, and Steve O’Dwyer to bank $1,428,430.

Last year, Antonio Esfandiari outlasted a field of 438 and final table that included Andrew Robl, Vanessa Rousso, a woman, John Racener, Kirk Morrison, and Ted Lawson to earn $870,124.

And this year, Antonio looks to do it again, making back-to-back event final tables.

The Magician will enter final table play stacked fifth overall with 1,255,000.

Leading everyone is former November Niner Soi Nguyen with 4,955,000. He’s followed by James Dempsey with 3,860,000.

In third overall is Andrew Lichtenberger with 3,605,000.

Looking to become the WPT’s first ever female open event winner is Vanessa Selbst, a woman, with 2,250,000.

And bringing up the rear is Vitor Coelho with 560,000.

Follow the final table live stream beginning 4:30pm Sunday here.

Soi Nguyen Leads WPT Five Diamond; Esfandiari Looks to Go Back-to-Back

Antonio Esfandiari's dad (above if you didn't figure that out) celebrates his son's chances of repeating as WPT Five Diamond champ.

With 13 remaining in the 2011 WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic, former November Niner Soi Nguyen is the overall chip leader, stacked at 3,100,000.

He’s followed by Andrew Licthenberger with 2,114,000.

While some of the storylines from yesterday were KO’d, today’s short session (the remaining field plays down from 13 to six) still has plenty of intrigue.

Last year’s champ, Antonio Esfandiari, looks to repeat as he’s currently fifth in chips with 1,099,000.

Vanessa Selbst, a woman, is still in contention to become the WPT’s first open event female winner. She’s stacked at 869,000.

Also remaining is ex-WPT Championship winner David Williams with 748,000.

Esfandiari, Clements Among Leaders at Stacked WPT Five Diamond

The final World Poker Tour event of the year is shaping up to be a good one.

With 49 of the starting 413 remaining at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic, Kyle Julius leads with 1,457,000. He’s followed by former November Niner Soi Nguyen with 1,380,000.

After that, plenty of storylines to follow.

Last year’s champ Antonio Esfandiari is stacked third overall with 805,000.

Two women still remain, giving us one last shot this year for the WPT’s first ever female open event champ. Vanessa Selbst, a woman, is among the big stacks with 414,000. Dee Dozier, a woman, makes her first major title run and is stacked at 161,500.

A total of six former WPT champs are still in the field. Along with the aforementioned Esfandiari, also remaining are The Intense Stare of Scott Clements (563,500), David Williams (305,000), the man the myth the legend, Black Phil Ivey, Big Sldick, the one and only Dwyte Pilgrim (252,000), Jonathan Little (182,500), and Matt Giannetti (112,500).

On top of that–some underrated players (albeit not quite Curt Kohlberg Anonymously Good All-Star level underrated) vie for…dare we say…WPT glory? Andrew Lichtenberger (530,500), Matt Glantz (505,000), Brent Roberts (392,500), Matt Marafioti (336,500), and Peter Jetten (200,500) all remain.

But that’s not even where it ends. Some big names with huge tournament success over the years are still in contention for their first title. Among them include “the resurgent” Allen Cunningham (290,500), WPT Raw Deal commentator Tony Dunst (232,500), David “The Dragon” Pham* (143,000), and grinding out the short-stack as always, Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler (57,500).

Should be an exciting couple of days. Get full chip counts and follow the action here.
