Yevgeniy Timoshenko Among WPT Championship Day 1 Leaders

Watch Evy Ng goes Dutch on RawVegas.tv

Registration hasn’t closed yet, but a probably-less-than-hoped-for 161 have signed up so far for this year’s WPT Championship.

Of the 161 who entered, 138 have made it to Day 2. One-time WPT winner Shawn Buchanan is the chip leader, stacked at 388,600. Last year’s WPT Championship winner and looking less-like-a-chick-these-days, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, is among the big stacks at 277,375.

Other big named big stacks include some guy named Phil Ivey (230,250), Prahlad Friedman (204,000), and Beth Shak, a woman (189,725).

In somewhat related news, 27 currently remain at the EPT San Remo. Dmitry Stelmak is first overall with 2,270,000. He’s followed by Allan Bække with 2,200,000. Liv Boeree, a woman, is still alive with 825,000. Follow the action here.

Finally, in totally unrelated news, above is Evy Ng‘s latest vlog. She and her boyfriend Lex Veldhuis do not appear to be playing in the WPT Championship, unless they happen to register today. There. Now it’s semi-related.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko (above) is still in contention for the WCP Triple Crown(TM) by winning a WPT, WSOP, and WCOOP event this year.

The money bubble popped at the WSOP Europe Main Event. Much like last year, a lot of marquee names have made deep runs.

Not among those names is chip leader Matt Hawrilenko, stacked at 701,500. Also not included is second overall Steven Fung with 648,000.

Some notables remaining include and are limited to Barry Shulman (452,500), Daniel Negreanu (314,500), Yevgeniy Timoshenko (285,000), Doyle Brunson (246,500), Antoine Saout (202,000), Liz Lieu, a woman (193,500), Steve Zolotow (156,500), James Akenhead (153,400), Dave Ulliott (80,000), and Men “The Master” Nguyen (63,000).

Yevgeniy Timoshenko Making A Charge at WSOPE Main Event

Yevgeniy Timoshenko (above) is looking to win a Triple Crown of sorts: WPT, WSOP, and WCOOP title all in one year.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko (above) is looking to win a Triple Crown of sorts: WPT, WSOP, and WCOOP title all in one year.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko is on some kind of heater.

Dude (looks like a lady) won the WPT Championship in April, banking just over $2M. Then we won the WCOOP Main Event earlier this month for another $1.7M (followed by a $70k online win within 24 hours). Now at post time, with 58 players left (36 make the money), Timoshenko is making a run at the chip lead of the WSOP Europe Main Event.

Yev is currently fourth overall in chips. He trails Ian Munns (pic of Munns here…yep he’s probably British). Other big names remaining include Steve Zolotow, Dave Ulliott, Barry Shulman (really? man…), Amnon Filippi, Antoine Sauot, Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, James Akenhead, Antonio Esfandiari, Annette Obrestad (a woman), WSOP Last Woman StandingTM Leo Margets, Men “The Master” Nguyen, and half-man, half-amazing Freddy Deeb.

Follow the action throughout the day here.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko Wins WPT Championship; ElkY Secures Player of the Year Honors

Yevgeniy Timoshenko with a brown wig? Maybe? Or Ukrainian model Olga Kurylenko?

As expected, Yevgeniy Timoshenko ran away from the field and captured the WPT Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Timoshenko caught our eye earlier in the tournament, although not necessarily for his poker skills. But the Russian Ukrainian a woman who now resides in Washington State has been killing it online for years. Now, he adds the WPT's top prize and another $2.1M+ to his bankroll.

Timoshenko defeated Ran Azor heads-up for the title, ensuring Joe Bartholdi's status as the most random WPT Championship winner for at least another year.

ElkY Grospellier finished third, wrapping up WPT Player of the Year honors and adding another $776,245 to his tournament earnings.

Christian Harder finished fourth ($571,965), followed by "Good for" Shannon Shorr ($408,550), and Scotty Nguyen ($285,985).

Get a full recap of the evening and interview with Timoshenko here.
