WPT Five Diamond Brings in Big Field; D’Angelo Leads, Ivey Lurks

Which like the sports bra on Nathalie Grzech, player registration is busting through the seams at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic.

Usually a more “marquee” WPT event, there seems to be more industry and player interest around the Five Diamond World Poker Classic this year.

Day 1 brought in an impressive field size of 391!, with more late registrants expected on Saturday. Last year’s event only drew 329, so fuck you 2009!

Around 330 of the initial 391 survived Day 1. Leading the way is Ryan D’Angelo with 192,500. He’s followed by (is this a joke?) Amirouddine Alibay with 185,200. Antonio Esfandiari is fourth overall with 149,550. And Phil Ivey is sixth with 143,225.

Other notable bigs include but are certainly not limited to he-back-again Kirk Morrison (130,075), Dan Fleyshman (119,625), and Shannon Shorr (115,000).
